Renewing a British Passport from Samui

(To be read in conjunction with the guidance on the
British Embassy website)

1.
Download or complete online the appropriate form
and guidance notes.

2.
Send completed application(s) to the published
address.

3.
Track the above using the details on your postal
receipt.

4.
Track payment details via your online bank.

5.
Wait………

6.
Accept receipt of new passport around 28 days
later.

Notes:

a)
The photographer opposite the cinema in Tesco’s
is one of many that are easy to find & know the specifications.

DO NOT ALLOW ANY OF THE IMAGES TO BE “PHOTO-SHOPPED”
as it is suspected of causing problems/delays in preparing some new passports.

c)
Re Multiple applications (ie from the same
family); All passports arrive separately.
If one doesn’t arrive within a few days of the remainder start chasing
it immediately.

d)
The vast majority of passports issued locally
since the switch to Hong Kong have arrived within 28 days.

Changes to British passport services in Thailand

Suggested procedure when presenting a new passport @ Samui Immigration

(Applies to anyone that has renewed their passport)

1. Be sure to formally cancel your old passport by cutting the corners off the front and rear covers, along with the photo page.

2. Present both passports and the receipt/supporting paperwork from the issuing authority* to the Immigration Officer.

3. The above should be all that is necessary however they have been known to seek further clarification (“Letter from the Embassy”). If this is the case you should email the Embassy with;

- Copy of photo page of both passports;

- Type of visa

- Date of entry into the Kingdom (as per white card in Ppt)

- Your Postal address.

4. On receipt of the above a letter can be prepared & sent/emailed to applicants from Bkk as needed. This may take a few days.

5. The above applies to everyone regardless of nationality. Paras 1 & 2 are particularly important as it significantly reduces the chances of being asked for further clarification.

Notes for Brits:

- The Issuing authority* for new British Passports is HMPO (HM Passport Office).

- Retaining the delivery packaging may further assist @ para 2.

LETTER TO BRITISH COMMUNITY

CHANGES TO BRITISH PASSPORT SERVICES IN THAILAND

Her Majesty’s Passport Office is making important changes to the way it delivers British passports overseas. The goal is to ensure that all British nationals living overseas receive a consistent, trusted, secure and efficient service whilst keeping the costs as low as possible. In order to do that, on 10 December 2013, responsibility for handling passport applications in Thailand passed from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to Her Majesty’s Passport Office.

Following on from this, from 26 March 2014, British nationals in Thailand will submit passport applications, in person by appointment only, to the UK Visa Application Centre. All the information needed to complete the passport application process, including address and contact details for the UK Visa Application Centre, will be available on GOV.UK at https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports

I know that this change will seem inconvenient, but the new measures being put in place support the wider public protection, helping to ensure that the risks of fraud and identity theft are minimised for those living and working overseas.

If you need to travel urgently but your passport is not available, you should still contact the nearest Consular Assistance team at the British Embassy Bangkok +66 2 305 8333 email:[email protected] In certain circumstances Consular staff may be able to issue an Emergency Travel Document but this is not a substitute for a full UK passport. So the best course of action is to apply as early as possible, and to make sure that you follow the new guidelines.

UK Embassy changes appointment system



BANGKOK: -- British citizens wanting notarial or documentary services from their embassy in Bangkok will need to make appointments online from March 23, the embassy has announced.
