What Should Sexually Active People Be Tested For?

Featured Replies

ive been involved with some ladies i would not bring home to mom and now i want to make sure that the rubbers did their job.

what specifically do i need to check for? I know there are quite a few nasties out there that you can pickup without showing signs.

It has been 4 months since my last indulgence.

do i need separate tests for each type of HIV?

No, single HIV test.

You should also be tested for Hepatitis C and (of not immunized against it) B. And in the latter case, the immunization would be advised.

The other STDs are usually symptomatic in men, but to be safe test for chlamydia and syphilis while you're at it.

May be they should test for a Brain :)

Jeez. I'd rather someone asked than walked around with an infection.

As a side note, please test for antibodies (immunity) after receiving the hepatitis vaccines. The vaccines do not work on everyone. Wait a few months after final dosing.

You should be tested for every disease known to man. On the other hand, why not chill out and wear a condom when the occasion demands.

All you people flying off at the guy about condoms need to realise that he said he wore a condom (rubber) but he just wants to make sure he didnt contract something regardless of that.

Of course, none of you ever panced a lady of the night or one of the lowies down at the locale, did you? :)

He said he did wear protection, why exactly are you guys giving him a hard time, everyone that plays around be it with pro girls or just has some "friends" sould get the occasional check up, may as well have them run all the tests what can it hurt?

Whoops!, I assumed he hadn't used condoms and that was why he was worried!!!

Oh well, now he's very firmly in the hypochondria league. I don't know what the test is though, maybe reading selected excerpts from a medical book, and still feeling fine :D .

But it's about reasonableness really, I mean every second of the day we are subject to the invasion of some virus/bacteria or other, or prone to some rogue cell developing in to a cancer, so should we not go off and get tested for every known ailment? I don't know what is reasonable- what should we get tested for in a reasonable year? and if we feel fine isn't it best to assume we are disease free? Not an easy one to answer, but I feel OP doesn't have the balance, that is for sure.

you don't start feeling HIV until ten years later, after you have given it to other people.

im shocked by the childish remarks made by a few of you guys here, i hope you never run into any trouble and need some helpful answers, if you dont have anything helpful to say keep quiet, or start your own bs thread, :)

here are some spots to go get tested, im not sure of the costs for these places, maybe someone with a little more experience in these matters can enlighten us,

im interested as well and could use a good screening as its been a while, let us know where you choose to go and how it works out.

It depends on what you did, how you did it, and how hard you did it. Without being explicit, use your imagination.

Hepatitis B is 20 times as infectious as AIDS but only a worry for 5% of people.......95% get over it, and most don't realize they had it. They just think they had a light dose of the flu.

Condoms don't protect you from picking up the virus that MAY cause any future partner to get cervical cancer. You can get this on the skin at the base of your thingy. It's also called human papillomavirus or human wart virus, but you may not see a wart. However it will not affect you, unless you ate "furburger". .....it is a little-known fact that you can get this virus in the throat.

Wait 90 days after your last sexual contact before paying for an HIV test. HIV is not detectable in the first 90 days.

Worth doing other tests straight away. I have no idea how reliable Thai clinics are though. Being a Brit I would wait if it was a matter of days before going home and visit a free STD clinic - they will take you through everything from square 1 and it is confidential between you and them.

I realize that this is a topic that makes many people anxious, and that joking is a way to cope with that anxiety, but this is the health forum, not Bedlam, and these types of replies are not appropriate here. :)

Well I went and had some tests run the other day at bumrungrad, free and clear :) was a painless experience, very polite, grand total was 965 baht took about 2 hours, very easy. Everyone should do this for their own peace of mind, no excuse really.
