A friend was asking if it's possible to get a visa for Laos at the border or is it necessary to get one at the embassy in Bangkok.

Is there much difference in price too?

Thanks for any replies.

If you've got time to get the visa in Bangkok then..... 'Do It'

It'll mean you can walk through without waiting around and filling forms. However, it's easy enough to get at the border. If you're arriving at 'Nong Kai' bus depot, be careful ov the touts who will take you to an agency and will charge you more.

There's an international bus from 'Nong Kai' which will take you to the border and into Laos for 55Baht.

it's easy to get at the border, takes 20 minutes depending how busy it is. Once you recieve the visa there is no need to qeue for an entry stamp as this will have been done in the visa office. So it's definitely easier to do at the border because you will not have to qeue for a stamp, and i can't imagine the embassy in Bangkok would be able to process a visa in 20 minutes, even if they could you would have to qeue for an entry stamp anyway.
