see him on liverpool t.v.,complete and utter baffoon, and super sub aint much better, last time i saw aldridge on the show he was sporting a burst lip, no doubt got a slap from an irate red for another of his gobshite comments, great show for highlights of yesteryear, mince punditry

I would hardly call Aldridge a "Liverpool Legend".....however he was a legend at Oxford United.

Liverpool Legends:

Dalglish

Keegan

Hansen

Rush

They are the only names that spring immediatley to mind when I think of Liverpool Legends, maybe Souness and Beardsley, Fowler and certainly Gerrard will be one once he retires

How about Ronnie Whelen ??

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...ool/8459188.stm

After reading that link Aldridge seems to be backing away from previous comments. "We can turn back the tide" he says. Isnt that what King Canute said ?

I really dont see the point in sacking him now ,apart from the payout who would want to come into that job mid season who isnt already employed. Tony Adams ,David O 'Leary, Terry Venables , Kevin Keegan , Mark Hughes ,Gary Megson.... ????

I don't think that any of the above names would do a better job. It's all very well for people to shout sack him, but "to be replaced by who?"

Well, this headline isn't for you then, from BBC Online today: Benitez job safe, say Liverpool

That's like turkeys voting for Christmas. If he remains in place for the next 4 months let alone the next 4 years, they are in dire trouble.

Seems like the Liverpools and Man Poo are spiraling out of control, and this wil be great for football as most are fed up of the same top 4.Let the Spurs,Man City Aston Villa step in as they are playing much better football anyway and better managers too.

Who in the hel_l is going to take over from Red Nose and the spanish waiter

This extract from an article in the usually bumsucking Liverpool Echo:

They are in grave danger of being cut adrift and, should a revival not materialise, the wilderness beckons for a club that, to every supporter’s great regret, has become synonymous with off-field strife as opposed to on-field success.

Clearly there are plenty within the dressing room who are shaken by the malaise. Jamie Carragher, for one, has spent the past three months sporting a haunted look, unable to comprehend how things have gone askew; ditto Torres, Gerrard and Pepe Reina.

Lucas might not be a popular figure on the terraces but there is absolutely no questioning his commitment to the cause and it said everything that he was still running in the final minute of extra time against Reading, when others had long since cried ‘enough’.

Sadly, though, there are others who simply don’t appear to grasp the ethos of the club for whom they are handsomely rewarded to represent and the carefree body language of certain individuals as they left Anfield on Wednesday night beggared belief.

When you mix that all together, then, it will hardly comes as a surprise to hear Melwood has been like a morgue for the past 24 hours, with the result against Reading killing off what little life there was remaining in the squad.

............Whatever, the fact of the matter is that Liverpool are facing the most daunting challenge in their illustrious 118-year history, a battle to save their reputation, to show their days aren’t numbered and they are not, as the song goes, not famous any more.

This is no time for clichés about the season starting here or spin saying everything is fine – it doesn’t and it isn’t. Only one fact matters tomorrow and that is Liverpool must get three points. Should they fail to do so, there really will be an explosion.

Aldridge denies the comments.

I have never read such backpedalling. he clearly attracted a lot of stick for that article on many fronts, right or wrong.

Also he only quailfies his view, saying Rafa should stay until the end of the season:

"I have never said that Rafa should be sacked," Aldridge told ESPN. "All I have said is he needs to turn things around quickly at Liverpool because the club need to finish in the top four this season.

"These are difficult times for Liverpool on the pitch and financially, but Rafa should stay in the job until the end of the season and try to put things right."

Having knocked Aldo as a non-Liverpool legend, a tad unfairly I thought, you will no doubt be disappointed to read this: Souness: Benitez must Quit Liverpool Now

Souness must rank as the WORST possible person to be saying anyone should quit, given HIS managerial career at the club.

He hung on by his fingernails way after he should have fallen on his sword, so his comments smack of hipocracy at best

Possibly Souness was the architect/cause of the ills the club at the moment, tbh.

Posted
Souness was hardly a success as Manager but I would say it is pushing the envelope a bit to blame him for the current ills. :)

Don't worry - it's a bigger refusal to acknowledge the real problem than just blaming the admittedly appalling Souey from yesteryear (last time I checked he didn't approve Benitez's transfers did he?).

More gloom from the Guardian today:

Liverpool's travelling fans cheered Benítez off the field on Saturday..... This was not a genuine salute as much as a sign of defiance aimed partly against the Potters' supporters, who had consistently managed to drown the noise coming from the away end, but mostly at an outside world which is looking at the club and seeing only the signs of a sudden decline with serious long-term implications.

There can be little doubt that the wrong people are in charge at Anfield, which makes it hard to be optimistic that the right decisions will be taken. Somebody, however, has to do something about what is going on in the name of the club of Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish, where Benítez's haphazard recruitment policy and cut-and-paste method of selection seem inadequate to meet the challenge presented by the prospect of a barren season.

....The failure of so many of Benítez's mid-level acquisitions to leave a mark on the club reinforces the suspicion that, unlike several Premier League managers with more limited resources at their disposal, he takes moderately gifted players and makes them worse.
