Had a look round a Hyundai H-1 passenger van the other day on display at a local supermarket and thought it looked ok. It's not the best looking vehicle in the world but there was something about it I liked.

Anybody got one? Any opinions? A glance at a few British websites gave some fairly favourable reviews.

I think they are ok but only for a longtime ownership if buying new, i will be looking to purchase a S/H one when they are 5/6 years old using the Thai blinkered outlook so i can get something worth "the money"it's the only one apart perhaps from the Santa Fe(limited) thats got any chance here .I just wonder who is running Hyundai Thailand when they are going head to head with Toyota and importers which is a no brainer although i do see they want to bring in the i10 perhaps they finally woken up seeing the number of Protons getting onto the roads so the i20 and i30 perhaps will follow.

I would stay away from any cars other than Toyota and Honda, when come to part and repair, it will cost you a lot and have to wait long time. The dealership for Hyundai is not extensive enough to make it worthwhile to own one of these care over here

Think the Hyundai H-1 look good, you have to look twice as the side/back you think it is a Benz.[only its 1.6 million cheaper]..

a big PLUS is they start at 1.050,00 baht, so cheaper to buy than a Toyota Commuter

Must be OK as there are lots on the roads.

I'm not so sure, of course there to new to know [oldest model is 2009], but the cheapest Toyota Commuter is some 355,000 baht more expensive new than the Hyundai H-1

The other you see lots of is the Volkswagen Caravelle that is over 2 million more expensive, the Benz is cheaper.

The cheapest to buy new is the Nissan Urvan, not sure if it is as big and roomy as the Hyundai H-1

I test drived 3 seater in EU which dont have suspension good as multi seat version and it was still good, not good as MB Vito or VW Transported but very good with powerfull engine! Versions around 1.3-1.4m ThB have very nice leather seats. It is best car for this price range! Dont even think about any Hiace or Urvan without front end, where you have your legs 20cms from bumper.

Hyundai build good vehicles, specially the new Coupe, looks great, but it's not even available anymore. Similar is with the H1. Peaple pay for a Toyota much more. In LOS it's very hard to sell anything else than boring Toyotas, Hondas an Isuzus. They want all the same cars. similar as in Est Germany 30 years ago. Everyone had a Trabant. Just to compare. Locals pay 1.2 million baht for a 17 year old used and f...ed up Mitsubishi GTO, but noone would buy a brand new Hyundai Coupe for 1.6 Million Baht. It doen's make sense to me. The commuter is one of the most ugly things i ever saw. Commuter looks to me like a delivery van. H1 looks to me more like a Fimily Van. And allways the same argue about the spare parts. I have a 17 year old Hyundai S coupe, all original, and i never had to import any parts until now. My car still in good condition and still driving. How would this possible if there were no parts in Thailand???

Cheers for the feedback. I just thought they looked like you got a fair amount of metal for the money.

The dealers only about 5k from my house. Might wander down for a test drive.

great van

not on par with MB Vito or VW Caravelle, but neither is the price

much more comfy and drives better than Toyota Commuter, more like Alphard but slightly larger

Powerful MB sourced diesel, 5 speed auto, good kit

Huyndai is doing LOS themselves now, as long as this works spareparts should be ok, probably better than MB or VW.

Good to see some decent feedback. I was half expecting a thread full off "What are you looking to buy one of those bits of crap for?" by people who've probably never even seen one.

Cheers all.

You're right. It took almost two months for the trunk and back light of my Proton to arrive.

I think Hyundai are made in Thailand now in a partnership with Kia so should be easier obtaining spare parts.

H1, Commuter, Ventury, Alphard, VW, MB all vans imported. I dont know any thai made van

Hyundai is a rising star. They used to make cheap crap cars, so bad they had to retreat from the US market. Then 10 years or so back they came back with 5 year all-in warranties, more than anyone.

And in recent years, I was surprised to see they make really good-looking cars now. Something has happened to their design, the H-1 IMO looks great. In terms of desirability as has been pointed out just behind MB and VW, in terms of price one of the least expensive around. Quality probably better than the VW too not to mention parts.

I drove my dad's Sonata around Europe last fall - great car all around. It's not a BMW or Mercedes, but it's up there with the higher end models from the others.

I have different Hyundais for 16 years overhere and i NEVER had any problem to get parts. I don't know why peaple always say the same thing.

BTW last month i could not even buy a Taillight and 4 door protector cues for a 2003 Toyota Altis overhere in Pattaya. Taillight had to order from Bangkok, by my self, arrived next day. Door cue not in stock, Toyota told me they don't know when they available again. But i don't give a s.... about having door cues or not. But i got front turning lights for my 1993 Hyundai Scoupe within a day from BKK.

So far for Toyota Parts!
