I love it - right on thr beach at Wongamat. Its only brand new - about 3 months ago was the grand opening. Rooms are fantastic and every room has a sea view, great for watching the sunsets from your balcony. Its walking distance up Soi Wongamat (18) to Pattaya Naklua Road. They also have a shuttle service from the hotel to Central festival.

do you know if there are there any ''concierge fees'' for taking ''friends'' back to the room?

Its a 5 star hotel - what do you think?

best guess would be yes in line with other hotels like Dusit etc

i thought i would ask as you seemed remarkably well informed about this hotel

Great hotel. Stayed there in March with my parents for a week and they loved it. The food and drink was a bit fancy and expensive compared to what you get outside the hotel but not exactly surrising for a 5 star hotel. Facilities are excellent and the pool is huge.

One interesting offer was was that if you lodge money at the reception within 24 hours of checking in they would double it for any spending within the hotel - basically by prepaying your food/drink bill you end up paying half price for everything.

Yes, it is nice!! The rooms are great - all seaview. And with the shuttle service to Central Festival Shopping mall or just a quick walk up Soi 18 to Pattaya-Naklua Road and the baht bus service - or the bars and restaurnats in the area you are "close enough to everything - but far away from it too!!"

From your op and follow-up question, I assume your friend is a single male traveler. If this is correct, he may not like the Centara Grand Resort. First off, it is a very large and rather impersonal resort IMO...definitely not a place I would want to stay. It is new and others have said the rooms are nice so that's a plus and I have toured the outdoor water-sports cum pool area, which is again, also huge.

The main problem for your friend will be that this resort is heavily marketed to families...that's mom, dad, and all the little rug-rats. They're everywhere making a ruckus. If that's your friends idea of a nice vacation then he will be right at home.

There are also many Thai families staying there and I'm sure any "guest" your friend may have in the pool area would feel very uncomfortable and self-conscious.

Maybe the Sheraton or Marriott would be better choices...not so many families and more secluded locations.

I did a walk around that place during the Christmas and New Year's Holidays.

It looks very nice and the staff were very friendly and polite. Like another poster said, it is not really a nightlife type place as it is marketed more to families. In fact, during my walk around I did not see one bar girl looking person anywhere. I saw kids roaming around and playing in the pool, I saw an area for kids to have a party and a kids play room so you can see that families look like their target market.

But I did see a manner-less woman clipping her fingernails while sitting on one of the sofas in part of the lobby. :)

Here are a few pics....

I think this is an Infinity Pool.

*bump* Just got home. Decided to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Thepprasit Road and drove a few kilometers up Pattaya 3rd Road and around the Dolphin roundabout to the hotel. Was there from Monday until Friday (today). Enjoyable experience all around. Haven't played on a real grass tennis court for years. The kids loved the whirlpools and slides. Standard acceptable/expected level of Pretty Woman style sucking up from the hotel employees.

Minor complaints was that the WIFI connection was very spotty in the suite and the LAN network was out most of the time and thus had to use the business center and Club Mirage (12th floor) for access. Not a biggie, but folks who have more dire work obligations than I probably would have been annoyed. Also it's a bit too popular for my taste at the moment, from Thursday evening, today, and I assume for the rest of the weekend.... it's packed with Bangkok families like it's a national Alphard and Cayenne club reunion. I think I almost enjoyed the more worn down (and far less popular) Hard Rock Pattaya, which was a nice 'abandoned but still plenty of staff and beach/pool/games type things to do' 3 1/2-4 star-ish holiday, which is what we did the week before last.

7.5 out of 10 overall for Centara Grand Mirage Pattaya. Will compare to their Phuket Karon facility in a few weeks.

Go during the work week when most folks work for the best results IMO. Usually my philosophy, totally missed that this week was a holiday week when we decided to go.

True, great sunset views (I use to live on the same beach) --but, the place is really for families. If you are looking for a more quiet place with a good view, I would check into the Dusit (but the rooms are older). On weekends, the Mirage "theme park" get full of BKK families with kids running around. Nothing wrong with this, but if you are into a quiet place on the beach, there are better places...
