Besides in this age of pocket GPS, good to 10 meters or so,

there is no excuse not to know EXACTLY where you are if you need to...

GPS? Do you really think the Thai military is going to equip conscript units with expensive gear like that? Have you ever seen a Thai soldier's standard kit? We're talking basic. Yes, Thailand has gone on a spending spree but that was intended to equip the southern forces. The 15,000 new Israeli Tar-21 guns were hardly a retrofit of the landforces. All the money has been going to big ticket items like airlift. The conscripts are still using really old weapons and have uniforms that don't hold up well under battle conditions. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those guys even know how to maintain their firearms. Besides, do you think Thailand has access to reliable satellite communications to provide a secure positioning system? It's not off the shelf from the local 7-11. An unsecured datalink is the equivalent of sending up bright starburst flares over your position.

I mean, I read in the propagandist Bangkok rags, front page news no less, that the opposing troops had had a game of football at New Year and all the border problems were now resolved.

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding about the result, which someone failed to communicate properly but when the situation is explained fully there will be no more room for misunderstandings.

Seriously, when I read the title I was really surprised (in positive). I thought Thai army was fighting Khmer Rouge. Then reading the article I found out this is not true. Thai army has always supported those criminals and they always will until they will have a benefit....

You do not know what you are talking about. I suggest you study what happened in SE Asia starting at 1960. Study the different dynamics that occurred...the arising groups, alliances, and shifting alliances within Cambodia, between countries outside of Asia and within Asia. Hun Sen is Khmer Rouge and also a Vietnamese puppet. Sen is a very corrupt and evil man. Anyone that gets in his way ends up dead sooner or later. He or his wife had an actress who Sen had an affair with murdered by hired assassins. Sen had four hitmen shoot the beautiful and extremely talented famous singer Touch Sreynich (Touch Sunnich) twice in the face and once in the neck. Touch's mother was killed and now Touch is a quadrapalegic now living in the USA after she and her family were given political asylum in th US. She and her family know who tried to kill her but they are affraid to speak about it for fear they will be killed...even in the USA. The largest group of Cambodians outside of Cambodia live around Longbeach, California and some are gansters with connections to Hun Sen in Cambodia. Hun Sen's goons are also responsible for shooting the singer Pov Panhapich in the throat and face. She lived. Sen's political opponent, Sam Rainsy, barely escaped assassination in a grenade attack that killed many of Rainsy's supporters. Hun Sen is Khmer Rouge. He and his cronies and the police and the court system rule the country as corrupt dictators pretending to be otherwise. The only hope for Cambodia is to purge these scumbags from power... which will probably not happend. Rainsy is Cambodia's only hope at present, but he will probably be killed by Sen's assassins. Google these women singers that were targeted for assassination and study the history of SE Asia during the last 50 years. You need some education concerning Hun Sen and the Khmer Rouge.

Interesting...so israelis have time to perpetrate infant male genital mutilation and sell guns to Thailand at the same time. Sounds fairly ambidextrous. I have had US friends train with and train the Thai army.
