Beware Crooks

Featured Replies

Yesterday, two Thai men (one in his late 30's, the other one in his 50's) entered my house without my invitation! I didn't see them, I was working on my computer! When I finally saw them, they were inside with their shoes on! I was very surprised to see these two guys inside my house, they immediately said they were Military Police and they needed informations... I sat them, offered them coffee, then they told me that a lot of their fellow soldiers got wounded by bombs in the deep south and they needed money to buy wheelchairs, medications and things... I, then said I needed a souvenir, I took out my telephone and took a picture of them, then I asked themn to follow me to their truck (A grey Isuzu Pickup) and took a picture of it and of the license plate that ends by 1380. After I took the pictures, they quickly jumped into their truck and left right away! These guys were not violent or anything but it's obvious they are crooks. I may be wrong so I do not want to publish their pictures. Just be careful if they come to your house.

A couple of threads about them, Call the police & tell then the car number & their pictures.

Well carmine, last year the police did chase them off the island. They target foreigners & case their houses. They did that to us last year & walked upstairs to the bedroom. So if you feel, there is no need to do anything about them great, your choice. :D

I unfortunately agree with carmine! I doubt going to the police will do any good but I am going there right now, we'll see!? I hope I'm wrong...

No no Roo, i did't say that. My intimation was that nothing would be done, which is very different :D

Sorry I misunderstood. But last year , the police were very interested , they even rang me back to confirm some of the details. At least , he has their picture & the picture of the car, which is more then what I had.

I hope they get these scum bags.

for all that, and them being crooks they seem very tame for crooks, just sitting down and having a talk and a drink, allowing themselves to be walked out to their truck, have their picture taken and licence plate details phot'd.

Location?

Where do these guys show up?

Do they sport ID's?

Name tags?

Location & where do they show up: Mostly foreigners homes & it seems they are concentrating on Bophut & surrounding areas.

ID's : They have name tags & they show this book, with pictures of injured soldiers & wheelchairs. They require a substantial donation(they asked me for 5K at the time) , then they give a small present, an amulet or the such.

They are scammers.

Give the photos to the Police.

But don't you find it disturbing that they would enter a stranger's house without announcement and clearly without invitation? I'm not so sure that them acting coolly after being caught means that they are harmless, it just seems to me that the houseowner chose to diffuse the situation in a non-confrontational way. But what they did is by no means normal in Thai society nor in any other society that I'm aware of, you don't just enter someone's house and take a look around.

Print a pile of photocopies and spread them around the island should give them the message we don't want them here.

Yes please. Or publish the photos to some blog or website that you might have and give us a link. I think we Faranag should stick together about issues like this. It's precisely that we are such a soft target that guys like them feel invincible and able to do whatever they want and get away with it. Too many (Farnag) homes have been robbed already and the Police don't seem serious about it encouraging more of that. Entering someone's property without a valid reason is a crime in Thai law. If you were not at home you would probably came back to find it emptied. If we know their identities somebody may even be able to point them to police. Who knows how much robbed stuff may be accumulated where they are putting up.
