Thai Friend Seriously Harrassed By U.s. Border Official

Featured Replies

Cameras are everywhere filming everything now. So a good attorney may be able to review the tapes and sue the government for big bucks if there is evidence of harassment and abuse of power. She could call up the American Civil Liberties Union for a referral to an attorney probably not someone working for the immigration authorities because they will probably just want to cover it up and get rid of the problem unless outside investigators are pushing for justice. Sexual harassment and abuse of authority could lead to an assault. Not unheard of in California and elsewhere. http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/07/17/office...ault/index.html

Totally agree

These guys have jobs that are intrusive by nature and you won't get him, unless you have phone calls to back it up. I've seen them 'chatting' up lots of people--and it's pretty obvious they aren't interested in a liaison. They are looking for all kinds of untoward people including prostitutes, people violating their visa (coming as a tourist, but actually doing business etc.)

He has an endless list of excuses. Her big mistake was giving out her phone number. Generally ducking into the ladies room should do the trick.

Either way it will not likely affect her visa status. She would not be denied a visa because of a complaint.

I read this quote from the OP and found it to be important

"He followed her out of the processing area and asked for her phone number..."

what on earth is she doing giving her phone number to a customer/stranger in unofficial capacity? And how is a so-called immi boss allowed to leave his desk and follow this lady? Perhaps he's really a toilet cleaner? Perhaps the girl is thrilled by the attention she's receiving in her wonderful new country? Sounds like she's more interested in getting flirted with than her "bf". I asked my wife what she's do in the situation. she said she's tell him that she doesnt have a phone and uses her husband's phone. Sounds like a fishy story

Forget it, a little Latino machismo gone too far is all. Tell her next time that she is under NO obligation to give her number out ...to give her number would be seen as a sign of "maybe" to a uniform wearing idiot.

If he rings again let a male answer it and throw him a curve ball.

I am sure the lady would have been hit on by a few Thai BIBs in her time and she should have a faithful rebuke ready.

Thai(s) like to give their numbers out. It doesnt obviously mean to her I am interested, but for westerners certainly think it that way.
