Just extended my Ed Visa for the first time. I had signed up for a short Thai course and Immigration only extended my permission to stay 4 months.

My question is, if I'm still taking classes and have the school letters etc., will I be able to get another extension on this visa or will I need to apply for a new one in 4 months?

Thanks,

cr

Double check your stamps, as you should have gotten only 3 months (90 days actually).

If they did indeed gave you an extra 4 months, better go to immigration and let them check/correct. They might whack you with 30 days overstay if you go back to immigration after 4 months!

As long as you keep attending school you can keep getting 90 day extensions.

Permission to stay and 90 day reporting are 2 different things. With a "long stay" extension Chiang Mai Immigration is nice enough to staple a reminder note and date when your next report is. But I though the extra month was odd aswell

Monty is saying that the normal extension on an ED-visa is 90 days, not 4 months. He is not talking about 90 day reports.

It could be the case if the course is only for 4 moths that they give you an extension for 4 months, but it is not the norm. So better double check. With paperwork from the school you can get a new 90 day extension, your school should know this.

I always advice to go early, as in case you or the school forgets a document you have time to arrange for it.

yes mario buth i have all document

You are free to go on the last day, however it has no effect on the extension, as it always counts from the day you ere supposed to leave Thailand.

I too would advice on going a few days earlier, you never know, Murphy's law and all :)

Yes, my reply to monty wasn't clear. What I meant/should have said was my permission to stay until and 90 report dates we're different.

Of course my question was about extending my visa, but as advised I did take another look at the dates. On closer examination, the difference is because I went in early to apply for my extension. As you both suggest the extension is 90 days from the original visa permission to stay date. But the nice man at CM immigration put requirement to report 90 days from the day I went to immigration. It's a note with instructions they staple into your passport here in CM, also signed and stamped.

Any way, I'm easy. As long as I don't have to do a visa run I can deal with it.

Thanks again,
