Perhaps that could be a valid reason why manufacturers went offshore to manufacture the same item at a lower cost to the consumer and still make a profit. Under Trump's tariffs, it will cost the end user, who will have to pay more for the same item. Who gains from all this? The manufacturer who will have to sell more? The exporter who will have to sell more? The importer who most likely pass the increase straight on to the end customer. The end user, who will have to pay more for the same item? The tax revenue department who will get less revenue as less items will be sold? The manufacturer who may have to finance building new factories in the USA out of their profits? IF they build new factories, they will take the opportunity to install the latest robots which in turn will mean LESS jobs available for workers in the USA. So in the end, who actually gains and who loses? -
