Migrating from XP to Win7

Question about "Windows Easy Transfer"

I have already installed Win7 in dual boot mode on my PC. And prior to that, I'd run the "Windows Easy Transfer" in my XP. Now, when I tried to run "Windows Easy Transfer" in Win7, after reboot, I am asked to type the password for my "old computer". I do not have (don't recall) any password. Whatever I tried, it answered: "The password is incorrect."

Is there a way around this problem?

Is it possible to find/hack that password somewhere/somehow?

My main problem is in transferring my settings/accounts/address books from Outlook Express. As you probably know, Win7 have no Outlook Express or any other Email Client for that matter. I'm trying to use The Bat! as a replacement. And it is become a huge project in itself since I have quite a few email accounts.

Please advise!

Is the "old" XP partition still available? If so, log into the account you wish to transfer settings and create a password. This must be a real password, not a blank one; then run Windows Easy Transfer again.

The XP partition is still available, although... I'm currently unable to log into XP. When trying, I'm getting into a BSoD. The last time I booted into XP, I downloaded some updates from MS Update site, and was asked to reboot. That was it, no more access to XP. Will it help to provide the exact error message?

Any other possibilities?

I can access XP partition via Win7. Is it possible to set a new XP password that way?

P.S.

If I recall correctly, the XP password was a "blank one".

Post the error message...

Have you tried "safe-mode" or "Last known good configuration"?

I am currently scanning my Win7 with "MS Security Essentials" and will try rebooting into XP again later.

I have not tried nothing yet. Too busy with the new installation.

Will post results ASAP.

Thanks a lot for the info you posted, Supernova.

It is very helpful, although I'm still digesting it.

In the meantime, here is the error of BSoD in XP:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Tech info:

*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000008, 0x00000000)

BSoD is accompanied by a terrible noise, BTW.
