Yes, my visa ran out a long time ago. Yes, I know it's not what I should have done... etc etc. But, my main question is if I go to apply for a job now and they (the company) applies for a work visa for me will some department immediately pick me up and ship me out? Or will they just issue me a work visa?

Are you for real?

get out of the country after having paid the fine

Come back (from what I have heard no problems)

There is a lot of disconnect between the goverment deptartments ie immigration and labour, but saying that before you get your WP you need a visa, so the question is this were you deported or did you just pay the fine and leave ?

FYI..there is not such thing as a work visa in Thailand

If you have been back into Thailand since your overstay on a visa, then you should be ok....

The topic's title states "he/she HAS overstayed" therefore the OP is still in Thailand and is illegal

And reading the topic seems to confirm that (visa ran out long ago)

I probably don't know what I am saying but I think that you can't get a work permit unless you have a valid visa. In a worst case scenario, I assumed, the immigration would make you pay a fine and then deport you. The not so bad a scenario would be you pay a fine, renew your visa, and get a work permit. Either way, have money ready.

My sincere apologies.....in that case then the last thing the OP should be worrying about is getting a WP, rather should be making plans to get the h*ll out of dodge before the BiB pick him up.....go the airport, pay your fine and take it from there

The least I can say is that I am amazed by the OP's naive approach

I am sure I am not the only one :D

I would be using a stronger word than "naive".... :)

I tend to understate sometimes (by the way I have clicked on your profile instead of the topic; did not mean to be nosy)

When showing your passport to any official, there will be a fair chance he'll see your overstay and call immigration, resulting in your arrest.

This means a criminal case, appearing before judge, deported etc.

After that, chances are big you'll be getting lots of hassles if trying to get a work permit later on.

In your situation, normal procedure would be to leave by air, and make sure you have the cash for your overstay fine on hand (500 Baht/day with a max of 20,000).

You can return straight away, best bet would be a tourist visa as this gives you 60 days, or just return and get a 30 day visa free stamp

Apply for the work permit (through your prospective employer), receive the WP3 form (proof of application), then leave Thailand once more armed with all needed paperwork, get a non immigrant B visa, return, and then labor department can issue your work permit and you can start working.

If you would have been legal now, you could apply for the work permit now, then do the trip to obtain the non immigrant B and return. Same procedure as for everyone else who don't hold the proper visa when applying for a work permit.
