Sudafed Like Med In Thailand?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a pure product (not a combo) that contains a Sudafed chemical decongestant. (pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine.) So far I checked two pharmacies including Boots and both only had combination formulas with other junk I don't want. Sudafed is a brand name so probably not available in Thailand. Perhaps there is problem with the med because aside from its legit use it is also used for illegal amphetamine production. Any specific suggestions on how to get it?

There are a number of local generic preparations containing only pseduophedrine, but these are all now category P2 - pyschoactive substance supplied only to hospitals and thus can only be obtained from a hospital pharmacy by prescription -- for exactly the reason you mention. And my giess is that doctors will hesitate to prescribe it unless there is a very compelling reason why iot cannot be used in combination with an antihistamine.

OTC you can only get it in combination with other meds. the simplest combo is triprolodine (an antihistamine) + pseduophedrine, many brands. Beats the 3 and 4 drug combos at least.

triprolodine knocks me on my butt

good for sleep

is this available solo or only with pseduophedrine?

funny cause pseduophedrine can have the opposite effect

maybe thats why they put them together

cancel each other out

still puts me to sleep even with pseduophedrine

I have not seen it in other than combination with pseudoephedrine and yes, one of the reasons they are combined is to offset stimulant/sedation effects.

other reason is that there is often an allergic component in congestion, and usually congestion with allergy

Thanks for the info. So it would be illegal to bring in a few packs of pure sudafed arriving by plane for personal medical use? Sudafed is available without scrip in other countries.

You could definitely run into some problems unless you have a doctor's letter on you stating it was prescribed and why. This is the requirement for bringing in any controlled substance.

Doesn't matter that it may have been OTC where you brought it from.

Even in US, they no longer keep it on open shelves, although can still be blought by requesting it at the counter. And there may be some limit in quantiity sold. Obvious reason.

I use to use pseduophedrine for sinus but with paracetamol combination . Worked okay on sinus - as i can't take antihistamine either.

But it can affects on blood pressure, and it works against prostrate medications.

I had been having Sudafed shipped by a family member on occasion as I especially need the Non drying, non drowsy mix but more recently I have been using Clarityne and it has been very agreeable after using Sudafed most of my life.. One per day is nice and I have no side effects what-so-ever where as Sudafed does hype me up and even the non drowsy still makes me a bit drowsy..

Chalerm said he would ban the sale of all meth precursors by pharmacies, so now I guess that has happened and I imagine that none of the cold medicines containing pseudoehp are available for supply to pharmacies any more. Simply restricting sales by pharmacies doesn't work in Thailand because Thai pharmacists will sell anything they have in stock to anyone to make a buck.

I wonder if Mr Ch can truthfully swear that he has never received any income directly or indirectly from illegal drug dealing and never had a runny nose. He seems to have serious ENT problems with his inner ear now that cause him to lose balance and rant and rave in parliament like a drunkard. Surely he should have some sympathy for his fellow Thais struggling with colds and allergies but the profitibalilty of the cartels who have their own supplies of raw materials in Burma and are willing to pay good money to elbow out the local "moonshine" producers is paramount. What is absolutely sure is none of the government's measures will be effecitve in curbing the drug trade. It is far too profitable.

Clarinase is my decongestant of choice.

5 mg Loratadine

120 mg Pseudoephidrine Sulfate

It makes quick work of a cold if you start using it at first symptoms.

It seems to be available at most pharmacies here.

That's a pretty decent dose of pseudoephidrine but they cost 500 baht per box of 10 tablets. Expensive, but worth it IMO.

Decolgen plus is sold OTC here at nearly every pharmacy and contains

Paracetamol 500mg

Pseudoephederine HCL 30mg

Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2mg

That is per tablet.. They are sold in packets of 4.

The competitor product, Tiffy Dey, also sold in packs of 4 contains

Paracetamol 500mg

Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2mg

Phenylephrine 10mg

both are super cheap <15thb per pack of 4 tablets.
