My friend and I are going to visit Kachanaburi(not sure about the spelling) which is near Burma. We heard there is a great waterfall there. But I am afraid there is no waterfall now 'coz it rains little these days. So is it worth visiting there these days?

I have visited Kanchanaburi at this time of the year and saw waterfall (but not the famous Erawan) with plenty of water. But I found the intense heat in Kanchanaburi at this time of the year unsuitable for sight seeing visit (much hotter than Bangkok, I could hardly spend time ouside the car) so I personally wouldn't recommend visiting there in April.

Anna,

The waterfalls that you've heard about is probably Huay Mae Khamin... the most spectacular waterfalls in all of Thailand, and very close to the Myanmar border. The Erawan Falls are also quite spectacular and a bit more accessible.

There has been a bit of rain in the area so the falls shuld be flowing OK.

Have a look here for more info on Kanchanaburi.

Even if it were Erawan falls, you could still go there as there is water all year round really. I've not been there for a while, so if anyone has been there in the past few weeks, please correct me, but you should be OK going there.

You can either catch a public bus up there, or go on a minivan with other tourists for a reasonable price.

Entrance to the falls is 200Baht per person.

Hi Anna i am in kanchanaburi as i write and i think the erawan waterfalls are the falls that will be of most interest to you. You have several ways in which you can reach them from town. They are 64km away and if you rent a motor bike (150 Baht a day) it will take you aprox. 1 hour to get there. There is the local bus service with the first bus

(No. 8170) running from 8:00 am. then every 50 mins after that, this will take you a good 2 hours and the last bus back leaves the park at 4pm so dont miss that one or your stuck! The other option is to take one of the many tours on offer. Good times travel are a very friendly and helpful bunch i would recomend them (no i am nothing to do with them). The park closes at 4pm and they hussle people out so that the tigers dont eat you on there way to drink. There is plenty of restaurants at the begining of the park (where the bus stops) but they dont allow food or plastic bottle past level one. Ok i think that covers it, any other info needed? If you need a good guest house then Blue star is run by an absolutely wonderful young family.

Enjoy Kanchanaburi, and in reply to a previous post yes it is hot :o

(oh as an after thought, if your here for a few days leave it till monday, not sunday as it gets busy with local tourists on the sunday and it is such a beautiful spot it is better with fewer people about).

I took one of those package tours out to the river kwai in 03 from bkk.

Out in the parking lot i was looking over the bus that we were to go in

and ive got to say ive never seen such a piece of crap bus in my life.

I said to my friend "this thing is going to break down"

I was laughing at the oil pouring out of the a/c unit as it sat in the parking lot.

She said thats just the air conditioner isnt it? I reminded her if the a/c is this bad, the engine/brakes can't be much better. Sure enough it broke down and it was many hours before we got back to bkk.

be sure to check the condition of your bus before you go if your taking a tour bus

and bring mosquito repellant because thats area is a malaria hot spot

Thanks for all info.

Today one of my friends told me there are many ghosts in the forest there.

I dont understand why Thai ppl are so afraid of those ghosts. :o Are they really scaring? I think those ghosts are prisoners in WW2. So they wont hurt us, right?

Right. The answer is a big NO they will not. :D

Now back to Kan :o :-

large.jpg:D

Water in the Falls, not too much now since Srinakarin Dam is down by 9 meters or so from when I took this photo in 1999. (it feeds the Falls BTW me think) :D

Kan is a not too expensive place to stay for a few days with plenty to see, should you not choose to stay in your Air-con/Fan room during the day. :D

The Mountains have greened up since the resent showers or two and looks lovely as ever. :D

Have fun. :D

Should you be there during Friday to Sunday this week or other week-ends I should be in the Jolly Frog around 4.00 pm.

Hope to see you.

Kan Win

P.S. Ta K.O for your input :D Miss you like mad :D

Our current plan is to leave for kan on 27 May and come back Bkk on 31.

We are going to rent a van to go there coz we have around 20 ppl. But they dont know how many it needs to take from Bkk to Kan.

btw, I like the pic you took very much, kan win.

I hope I can play water there like Songkran. haha

Anna....you are so transparently in need of a rich farang boyfriend.

If 'The Gentleman Scamp' were to return, do please give him a shot at gold. He's not bad looking with his clothes off.
