Hi all,

I have some specific questions regarding transporting a dog from Australia to Thailand and would like some advice if possible:

  1. Has anyone had good/bad experiences with Jetpets or Dogtainers? They are both the same price and seem to employ staff with a moderate level of competence and whilst there are no guarantees, I want to give my dog the best chance of arriving without a hitch;
  2. There is a debate about the Import certification in Thailand. As I understand it, and knowing how things work in Thailand, the import permit should be filled out here and have a Thai National name on it to avoid typical farang exploitation. This could mean the difference of about 20,000 baht. Does anyone have advice on this?

Thanks. :)

We're desperately short of dogs in Thailand, why only bring one?

GungaDin,

What a thoughtful and helpful reply. Perhaps an abandoned dog in Australia would make you happier - just throw them away and adopt a new one here in Thailand? I'm assuming that the OP is taking responsibility for an already beloved pet in order to shell out this much cash to get them here.

Lingnoi,

I am hoping you get some truly constructive advice from other members. Much to GungaDin's disdain I am also planning to bring my dog here. Curses, two more dogs in Thailand.

shit... i flew my dog from NY to Thailand. a flight from Oz will be no problem. i had a pet travel service, but my company paid for the expense. for what it's worth, the dog came off the plane, paperwork was looked at and everyone walked away satisfied with the proper documents.

if you want to ask me anything particular or would like a contact at the company i used, PM me.

Good luck getting your dogs back into Australia, or are you going to dump them here?

Who said we're going back ourselves? :D:)

But I'm sure after we drop $1,500 to get them here safely, indeed we're planning to dump them on the streets of Thailand asap.

if you want to ask me anything particular or would like a contact at the company i used, PM me.

Thank you - I sent you a PM. :D

I can't directly answer your question, but I flew in a dog from Europe and ended up hiring an agent and a few envelopes got passed along the way to ensure a smooth delivery. This was after we filled out the necessary forms in a Thai citizens name. The specifics I believe I put in in the pinned thread about importing a pet.

Thanks for those who were constructive. It's all pretty much sorted now. I wasn't going to reply the idiocy of GungaDin but what the...

He sits around for much of his time looking for opportunites to post a smart one and waste the Forum's time. He's not alone - the Forum is full of his clones. I was warned about the degradation of the Forum over time due to spazzo's like GungaDin and sure enough, yep it's true.

At least you can train a dog.

Hello,

I moved here with my dog from western USA last October. She came on the plane with me as I didn't want to spend the money on a pet transport service when I figured I could do it myself. I didn't do anything sneaky, or put forms in anyone's name but my own. I followed the instructions on the below websites to the letter. The address I used for "consignee address" was the address of the school I attended in Chiang Mai. I suspect you could also use the address of a hotel if you needed to, because nobody checked to see what kind of address it was.

USDA website with info on Thailand: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/regulations/vs/i..._thailand.shtml

Pet website with relocation information on Thailand http://www.petrelocation.com/resources/int...ations/thailand

Thai gov't requirements http://www.dld.go.th/en/ (site is currently down but I think all the info is duplicated on other sites anyway)

When I arrived at BKK, an airline employee was waiting near the baggage carousel with my dog. She handed off my dog to me, and I went to the gov't veterinarian office which is right near the baggage carousels. They looked at my paperwork, asked me some questions and joked around with me, took my money (think it was 150 baht, but I don't remember), and sent me on my way. It took less than 10 minutes! But I definitely recommend scheduling your flight arrival during business hours so the vet will be available. My friends moved here from NZ with their cat and arrived on a Friday night or a weekend or something. They had to wake up loads of people and pay some serious baht (about 5,000 I think) to get her out!

I think this is everything...please PM me if you have any questions. Good luck!
