Well i have been doing a lot of reading about non immigrant visas to stay in Thailand . i still can not find out one way or another whats what. I can find anything that makes my situation clear . I wonder if anyone can clarify the position.

Ive read about non Immigrat multil entry visas being the best bet for a 12 month stay. They say that you need to leave Thailand after every 90 days and then re enter. I ve read about having 40,000 Thai bhat in the bank and just reporting to an immigratiopn office every 90 days.

My position would be to apply as the husband of a Thai citizen.

What would my position be? i understand that i have to apply for the visa outside of Thailand, so what happens when the 12 months expires , do i have to leave Thailand and apply for another visa?

Would i have to leave Thailand every 90 days or just report to an Immigration office?

It really is all very confusing even after reading as much as possible.

Thanks.

You can apply for extension of stay based on marriage to Thai if you meet the requirements, financial requirements being 400k in Thai bank account in your name for two months prior to application (3 months for renewals at some offices) OR 40k/month income (your income). It is easiest to start the process by obtaining single entry Non-O visa from consulate in your own country and you will receive 90 day permission to stay on entry.

You should apply at Thai immigration for your extension of stay during the last 30 days of your permission to stay, bringing with you the wife (for interview and to sign affidavit), her ID card, tabbien bahn (house book), marriage certificate, photos together around the home, map to home, completed application form TM7, copies of passport/TM6 departure card and current passport sized photos. If using the bank balance option you will need a letter from bank confirming the account balance and copies of bank book. If using income option you will need to obtain an income letter from your embassy if income is from overseas. Cost 1,900 baht. Most offices are now asking also for Kor Sor 2 (copy of marriage register - so may need to register marriage at amphur) and you may have to provide two witnesses to your living together (this is a new thing at some offices) so best to check before you go.

You will get a 30 day under consideration stamp and immigration will give you a date to go back and get the remainder of your extension. You can renew your extension of stay each year as long as you meet the requirements. You will need to report your address to immigration every 90 days but do not have to leave the country. For most offices 90 day reporting can be done by post. If you plan to travel abroad during the period of the extension you will need to obtain a re-entry permit from immigration to keep your permission to stay alive. Fee 1000 baht single entry; 3800 baht multi entry.

Thank goodness for that.

Thank you very much Thaiphoon , that explains things perfectlly.

If only the websites that explain about visas , including the Thai embassy UK sites could explain things as straight foreward as you.

I guess we shouldnt expect the Thais to make anything easy.

Thanks once again ,

Scooty and wife.

Believe you are in the UK, in which case suggest you apply for single entry Non-O visa by post using Hull consulate. Minimal paperwork. Passport/visa will be back within a few days. Suggest also enclosing a pre-paid special delivery envelope (cost about £4) with visa application for the return of passport/visa or Hull will add on an £8 return postage charge.
