Hey all.

I'm currently working freelance (teaching) and have been doing the Poipet visa run for the past 4 months. The company I work for have offered to help with getting the 3 month non-imm b visa. I've read as much as I can here and on Ajarn and have a couple of questions.

1. Can I only get a single-entry from Penang(or elsewhere in the region)? I have a B.A. , M.A. and P.G.C.E. (all English) and my passport is literally full of Asian stamps.

2. I want to go home to Ireland for a 2 week holiday before xmas and have the return leg of my ticket to do so. A friend checked prices for a one-way flight back to Thailand and was told that if I did not have Thai residency I would not be allowed on the flight. So how can I get around this?

Cheers, Slainte, Chok dee cap.

Working on a 30 day entry permit is not to be recommended, particularly as something visible, like a teacher :o

To answer your questions:-

It would appear that all the local consulates / embassies will only hand out 3 month single entry 'B' visas.

Once you have one of these it can be extended ad-infinitum when you get your work permit, which your employer should help you obtain (the process is reasonably simple but somwhat contrived).

When you have the extension (hopefully 1 year) you buy a re-entry permit from immigration (single or multi) and you're all set and legal.

With a visa or extension you don't need an onward ticket so there is no problem with one-way tickets.

1. If you will qualify for extension of stay (make enough money for your nationality) then one visa is all you need - from then on you get extensions of stay from immigration. If you do not qualify you will need to get a new visa every 90 days as local Consulates will not issue multi entry as a rule.

2. You might want to check into buying a return ticket here - it may work out as cheap as that one-way in Ireland. If you are on extension of stay you will need a re-entry permit for the trip. If not you will have to obtain a new visa during your holiday (multi entry would be good). The airline should fly you on a one-way ticket if you have a visa but understand some airlines in the UK region are very much against one way ticket sales so there might be a problem buying a one way ticket (another reason to look into price here).
