Gatorade Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I have unsealed grainy (not smooth) Terracota floor tiles in my house and they are an absolute disaster to try and keep clean. The small fissures in the tiles pick up all the grime and unless a wire brush is used, the tiles never look really clean. Made worse by having a number dogs charging around. What I would like to do is to seal them but prior to this they will have to be totally restored. Does anyone know if there is a cleaning solution which would dissolve the grime without causing damage to the tiles and grouting, and what type of Matt finish sealing solution should be used? Would appreciate any pointers/advice. Thanks, Gator
rametindallas Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 31.45% muriatic acid is used for cleaning 'cool deck' and swimming pools and is safe on any masonry incl. grout. You will need dishwashing gloves and a wire brush (not too stiff brass is the safest). Neutralize with baking soda and rinse with fresh water when done.
rametindallas Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 go to ehow on the internet or type 'terra cotta floor tile sealant' into google search box.
