I want to buy a 2nd hand Honda CRV in Bangkok. Can anyone suggest where is the best place to go. Is there an area/road where the majority of car yards are? Living in the country my tolerance for big cities is limited. Therefore I'd really prefer not to be trapsing all over the place.

I reckon if I can view 6+ cars I should be able clinch a deal in a couple of days, or am I dreaming?

And also cars4thais.com. I bought a truck off there from a tent seller and was very pleased with the outcome. Pick a few vehicles off the web, call to check if they are still available, then keep the mobile number handy of the salesperson you talk to so you can have them give directions to the taxi driver, if you are using one.

Thaicar.com is also another good one with English and Thai descriptions but the pictures on the Thai pages are more comprehensive you must search both.. Just bought a car recently off this website and so far fairly satisfied but always reserved..

For the biggest selection, you should go to Phuthamonthon Sai 2, I think this is where the majority of the 2nd hand car dealers are. There are thousands of cars on both sides of the road. From downtown sukhumvit, it should be around a 30min taxi ride.

I recently spent a number of months watching ads and researching second hand Honda CRVs. I settled on a very nice, low miles, 'top model' 2002, from a farang owner. I had set my price at not over half a million, although ads for that year often approach 600,000 baht. I found the CRV on this website It's http://www.taladrod.com/ in thai, but google translate helped a little and I found many sellers spoke some English or could understand my Thai well enough. (My car vocab is pretty weak!)

Two of the best vehicles I found had been reclocked, as in mileage turned back substantially. One had been in for 120,000 baht of paint and body repairs and was being sold as 'never been in an accident'! Get the vehicle ID number, or plate number if you read Thai, and take it in to your local Honda dealer. They have a networked system and can pull up service information from ID number or license plate number. The car I got had all its service done at Honda and the seller also provided all receipts and the original warranty booklet ('book-service'). Look for 10 to 15 thousand KM per year, but be sure you can confirm that!

It was a bit of an adventure, but rewarding. The car drives like a million-two which is what it cost new! There are many centers of car sales all around the outskirts of BKK, like a web to catch out of towners as they come in! I would never buy a used car from a tent, but that just me. You should see the ones out back that aren't yet ready to sell! Geez! Good Luck in your hunt!

Check out this site. Most of the used car dealers in Bangkok advertise here. At last look there were 381 used CR-Vs listed for sale. Most dealers have a map and most taxi drivers can read them. Good luck.

When I was looking at cars I took a taxi and drove round all afternoon. Thought the taxi driver was very keen and helpful running to get the staff at every garage we visited. Then found out he was running in to tell them he had bought me there and wanted the sellers to give him a sizeable commision if I bought something!!

This is usual, noone work for free. BTW, its the Kantchana Pisek Road (West Bangkok, go Dao Kanong and go to Wong Waeng Yai and turn in to Kantchana Pisek Rd.), where most of the cardelaers are now. If you loking for 2003 CRV, there is one black one on Thaivisa Classifieds.
