The local racist had not been seen in his local pub since the fire at the cotton mill about a week before where although no one lost their lives there were some narrow escapes.

So when he walked into the pub one night with a Pakistani called Ahmed and bought him a pint there were some odd looks.

After a few more beers Ahmed went to the men’s room, while he was there the racist’s mates said what are you doing in here with him?

The racist would not hear a bad word spoken about Ahmed as he explained how Ahmed saved many lives during the fire.

He told how many people were trapped in a room including the racist and the only exit was on fire he explained how Ahmed had stood in the doorway and jammed his head under the burning doorframe so the people who were trapped could escape.

When he comes back he said look on the top of his head and you will see the burn marks, this they did and sure enough there were third degree burns on his head.

This changed everything, Ahmed was the hero of the hour, later one of the racist’s mates said I can see the burn marks on the top of his head but what’s that big bruise under his chin, how did he get that?

Oh, said the racist that’s where we put the jack!
