Two Roads Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Would appreciate if anyone could advise where to buy quality Thai made wood furniture in Bangkok. We're looking to buy some dining room and bedroom furniture. Wanted to drive up to Ban Tawai near Chiang Mai but the wife thinks to far so am hopeful Bangkok has something similar. Appreciate any advice.
rgs2001uk Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 I dont know where in Bkk you live. However you could try the following, The Mall Bang Kapi, 4 th floor, ignore shops such as Koncept or Index, Seacon Square, on Sri Nakarin rd, again on the 4 th floor, but a larger selection than above, Not a shop as such more an area of small independent shops, read post number 8 here, http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Alternatives...29#entry3326429
chiang mai Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Unless the situation has changed recently, "Ban Tawai" in CM may not be your best best, unless you have detailed knowledge of one or two specific outlets that might carry the things that you're looking for, generally the outlets there carry a lot of "tat". I personally think you're much better off looking at stores in Bangkok,.
dddave Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 If you are in the Bangkok area and like the very traditional style, handcrafted Thai furniture, then go to Bangkok Noi on the Thonbury side of the river. Just a block or two down the road from the MAKRO store is a line of small furniture factory/shops that sell a wide variety of that style. You can take the #40 bus (yellow=ac) from anywhere along Sukhumvit/Rama 1 and alongside MBK directly there; it can be a long ride, sometimes close to an hour.
WormFarmer Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 McMichael furniture is quite good see : http://www.mcmichaelfurniture.com/. Also I remember seeing a classy wood furniture shop on the ground floor of Bliston Service Apartments building on soi Tanson just off Ploenchit.
