Several D-Max models come with the VGS engine. My wife tells me (from reading Thai forums) that it's has updated commonrail technology and that's all we know. Porters also say it's very fast and fuel efficient. But you really pay more for it. For 716,500 you can get an ex-cab Rodeo 2.5L with 4WD. The next cheapest 4WD is 809,500 with the 3.0L VGS.

Or, there's the Hi-Lander Ex-Cab 3.0L VGS (2WD) for 721,000 without the Navi DVD toy.

So my question is: is the VGS so much of a product change that should I buy a non VGS engine now it'll be unloved four or five years from now and hard to sell or trade in for a good price?

To be more clear, the first option I listed, for 716,500, is not VGS. I just wanted to point out that is you can live without it, and without the 3.0L engine, it's a cheaper way to get 4WD.

as I recall VGS has different turbo, intercooler and ECU, providing more power than their other commonrail 3,0. The lack of refined dual pilot injection like Vigo has, makes it clattering and noisy, but could improve milage.

VGS auto gear is detuned, since this old auto box cant handle the VGS power.

All DMax engines will be replaced by totally new engines, but probably not in November this year as previously announced. A new engine plant is beeing build, delayed

VGS is a variable geometry turbo plus on that model I remember reading that the brakes were bigger and a different auto-transmission. Its 163HP.

Hi.

My D-Max has the "normal" 3.0 engine (non-VGS) and it certainly is not noisy. Our neighbour's newish Vigo rattles a lot more (from outside, that is, didn't sit in a Vigo yet). Also i certainly can't complain about a lack of power, mine is a 2WD Spacecab with Auto gearbox and it pulls just fine and is quite economic, too. I love that truck :)

Best regards.....
