When you are marreid you can chose between applying for an extension based on working or on your marriage. For marriage you need to show an income of 40,000 a month OR 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand. But it requires a lot of paperwork and you will need to go back after 30 days for final approval. Immigration will probably prefer you stay on an extension of stay based on working, as that is much easier for them.

The benefit of the extension based on marriage is that you don't ahve to leave the country the day you lose your job. (You would get a 60 day extension based on your wife and could than apply for an extension of stay based on your marriage).

Getting married does not require any particular visa, can be done with a 30 day visa exempt stamp. It is the staying in Thailand part that requires an annual extension of stay, usually based on retirement, marriage or employment. The advantage with the marriage extension is that you would not have to leave Thailand if you lost your job.

sorry well i own my own companies, so fat chance of being fired :) well, unless i fire myself.... and stick to it. So no real reason to change visas? anyother advantages, im young-ish 31 im not sure if this is relevant at all, but in case i wanted to eventualy look into residence any advantage to either visa?

A lot of the papers for an extension of stay based on employment you will already need for your work permit. So it might be easy if you just stay on an extension based on your company.

For residency there is not much experience on the forum with getting residency based on marriage. I believe immigration will tell you to stick with employment/having your own business, as the process is very oriented to your benefit to Thai society (and how much tax you pay).
