I contacted Pattaya One News over a week ago to offer some constuctive criticism via their "contact us" link.

No reply as yet to a complaint about the sarcastic Antipodean reporter who seems to think it is necessary to add his own cynical and often disrespectful comment to the story he is reporting. Two of my other points were observations that they repeat their Wine and Dine and Business Matters features ad nauseum and that their advertisements have been shown for many years. Time to breathe a bit of new life into a tired old programme. Does anyone else feel the same?

But the voiceover (except for the ads) is Aussie. I quite like his style to be honest.

But generally I wonder whether Howard is letting his media empire slip a bit. Since they revamped their news website, it has been left in the dust by Pattaya Daily News.

I have to wonder about some of the footage they have on Pattayaone news. They always have gory car accident pics but one time they had a story of a woman having a miscarriage in a hotel bathroom toilet and they had a picture of the tiolet.

Slightly different and a general comment (I hope you dont mind) - As far as the news goes, it all seems to be about churning news stories out of (mostly) the police station at Soi 9. I know that they're runnning a business but there seems to be no objectivity, no getting a comment from 'the accused' or anything - just some git slyly lurking taking photos - a bit one-sided. This is not aimed purely at PattayaOne however, with most of them equally guilty of this.

Maybe you could offer your services, say, managing a letters page.

It is bound to be a winner with such stunning responses (to questions such as "How much is it likely to cost to drive from Buriram to Pattaya?") as follows:-

Is that a rhetorical question?

It will cost whatever it will cost.

Truly imaginative journalistic qualties that will immediately breathe life into Pattaya One News.

Some of the spoken sarcastic asides beggar belief and are tasteless.

For example on a recent news report regarding the fatality of a British man in a motorcycle accident in Pattaya; the Antipodean reporter ad-libbed: "No motorcycle helmet was found at the scene, possibly because he was holding it above his head to help block the starlight".

Such cheap jokes, at the expense of a dead British male are unacceptable.

Right! (But at the expense of Thai males would be just fine though, right? ) :)

Alternatively, watch something else?

I did not insinuate what you suggest. Don't twist the interpretation of my written wording, for your own personal devilish gratification.

What an asinine statement! This thread is specifically meant, in part, to discuss the sarcastic, tasteless scripted asides of the Pattaya One News commentator. If you can't contribute to a serious thread with a reasoned critical response, don't bother.

Personally I like the reporting and the sarcasm is just up my street – maybe I’ve been here too long. Agree with the silly restaurant reviews – way too boring – and far too many (repeat) adverts.

And before someone else says : there is always the “off” switch ………….

I stopped visiting the website a few months ago. I found that the "news" was borrowed from other newspapers. My personal opinion only.

It can't be compared to the PDN. The Pattaya Daily News is an impressive decent news source. It goes in depth when warranted and tries to provide community support and assistance. The lead journalists are Thai and they usually keep their political bias out of the stories. I am very impressed by the PDN, although I could do without the idiots in the comment sections. The PDN is probably the only local news organization that tries to meet its readers' interests and it does so with integrity.
