Good afternoon everyone,

I am currently living in Chiang Mai and doing an internship as part of my studies in the Netherlands. I therefore have a Non-Immigration ED Visa with multiple entries. I have been in Thailand almost 2 months now and will have to renew my visa before the 1st of May.

Now, at first I assumed I just had to do a regular visa run and get a new stamp upon entering the kingdom. Later I heard that I have to go to the Immigration Office in Chiang Mai first to confirm my current living address here in Chiang Mai and then after that go on a visa run to get a new stamp.

I read on the Chiang Mai Forum a rather confusing post (to me at least) that said that all I had to was go to the Immigration after three months (or whenever before the three months are over) to get a new stamp for an additional three months.

Which of the above is true, if any?

Also, which documents do I have to bring to the Immigration Office if I have to go there? Passport obviously, and most likely also the proof of residence from my apartment.

Do I also need to bring something from school or the company where I am doing my internship at?

Anything else I should keep in mind?

Is it recommendable to go to the Immigration Office on Saturdays? I assume that's the busiest day but unfortunately it is also the only day that I am not working. I could get half a day off, but I would rather not.

Thank you very much for your help here at ThaiVisa!

Cheers,

Singha

If you have a Multiple ED visa you must leave Thailand every 90 days. If it was Single Entry, then with documents from your school, you would go to local Immigration and get a 90 day Extension.

Thanks for your reply!

So that means I do not have to go to the Immigration Office at all, not even to register with them and tell them where I am staying? As in declaring myself to Immigration?

Cheers

As said, as long as you do hold a multiple entry Non-ED visa (and not an extension of stay issued by Thai immigration) you will have to leave the country every 90 days. You will receive a new 90 day permission to stay on re-entry whilst your visa is valid. Do a final border run just before your visa expires for new 90 day entry stretching your visa to 15 months. 90 day reporting does not apply to those on visa entry; only applicable to those with extension of stay.
