Novice Seeking Help

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm seeking some friendly and helpful guidance about some of the basics involved about relocating to Hua Hin from the UK. I've been to Hua Hin several times and have decided to take the plunge.

I'm okay on visa info and about buying a house - all the agents I recently visited gave pretty consistent information and advice.

But should I get their help in setting up the Ltd. Co. needed or do I go elsewhere for that? If so, where?

Is it possible to get good independent financial advice re: setting up bank accounts, transferring money, or should I do that in the UK?

Where can I get factual information about the real cost of living in Hua Hin, not just the price of goods, but to include house, health insurance etc?

Is it worth bringing any goods from the UK, or just selling everything and starting again?

Do you register with Doctors etc as in the UK? What are the costs?

What's the chance of getting work if wanted? My background is management in central & local Govt? Or is that a complete no-no!

Finally and most importantly, is there a Chelsea supporters club in the area?

Many thanks for any help given.

Thats a lot of questions, I'll do what I can to answer:

The agents you use to buy your property should help you with the company setup.

Financial advice is probably best sought overseas.

Factual information for the cost of living will come from people that live here, you need to be more specific.

Bring personal items but electricals, clothing and household appliances are cheaper here.

Doctors in Hua Hin are a joke.

Work oportunities are very limited, baiscally teaching, selling property or starting your own business.

I'm not even going to answer the Chelsea question :o

Would you qualify your statement that 'dosctors in Hua hin are a joke'?

Sounds like you've had some bad medical experiences so I would like to hear some detail to avoid the same pitfalls.

Here are a few examples of peoples opinions on doctors or more specifically hospitals in Hua Hin:

IMO they are fine for minor injuries but anything ambiguous (ie. you cant find it in the medical encyclopedia) should be dealt with by professionals in Bangkok. On the same note I found Petcharat hospital in Petchaburi to be very efficient and professional.

Thanks Buksida,

That's a useful start for me - is the advert/guide at the top of the forum about emigrating to Thailand worth getting? I'll also check out the forum you recommend.
