Just Wondering

Featured Replies

So finally got legally divorced through the Thai courts.

Now want to get married again :)

Now kinda dreading the thought of going through the whole process of getting docs from my embassy, getting them translated, getting them legalized by MFA in bangkok.......

Was wondering if we show up with my divorce paper at the Amphur but without the other docs would it be possible to get legally married after handing out some Nam jai??

Ok, don't get on back about this being illegal, I know that :D , ws just wondering if this would be possible and if the registrar would decide to go the nam jai way?? Is our marriage legal in the books then?

Don't shoot me, just inquiring here, if really needed can go through the whole process of going to BKK and get docs from embassy and all but if can be avoided by taking a short cut I would.

Any thoughts?

What No lol ?

Marriage isn't legal? Or no thoughts?

You are asking about illegal activities, which is against our forum rules.

The rules are clear, as a foreigner you need to get an affirmation of freedom to get married letter from your embassy.

Ok, no worries just delete the thread.

The rules are clear, as a foreigner you need to get an affirmation of freedom to get married letter from your embassy.

Of course, but just a note: If the OP did not register his previous marriage in his home country he may well be able to obtain a new "affirmation of freedom to get married letter" from his embassy.

DO NOT try to bribe your way through the system in order to do illegal things!!!!!!

Sometimes a 'gift' may help speed things up but not for illegal activities!

Thanks opalhort, indeed my former marriage was never registered at my embassy so I can without a doubt get a affirmation of freedom to marry.

Even if it would have been registered all that needs to be done is translate the divorce cert to my country's language to apply for a affirmation of freedom to marry.

As I said in first post : Was just wondering :D , been here so long that I got used to the availability of short cuts :)

Just a question to the OP:

While you were married did you apply for a new PP or communicate in any way with your embassy where you had to state your marital status?

If so, they will question you and you may get into trouble if you lie to them!

Yes, when applying for a new passport I stated "single" there my marriage had never been registered at my embassy.

That's why when I'll go and apply for the affirmation of freedom to marry it might be wise not to mention my former marriage.

Here are some more questions for the OP:

For your previous marriage did you get the letter? If so they may ask what happened about that!

Does your PP have extensions of stay based on Thai wife?

Every embassy knows that you can't get this kind of extension in Thailand unless you have a registered marriage!

Yes for previous marriage "14 years" ago I got the letter.

No, I never had any yearly extension based on this marriage since we haven't been in contact for years and years that's why I recently got a divorce granted from the Thai courts since I couldn't contact my ex in anyway. Seems like she has dropped of the face of the earth.
