A few questions for the specialists.

Hope you can help.

My WP/extension of stay based on marriage will end on 31st of May. I can start working for another company on 1st of May.

I believe I cannot renew the extension of stay before the 30th of April.

So what should I do first?

A. Go to the Labour office with all documents to apply for a new WP a.s.a.p. or go to the immigration office on April 30 to apply for an extension of stay renewal.

B. At Immigration, do they still need to see salary slips from the last 3 months or is a Por Ngor Dor 91 from last year earnings enough?

C. Does Immigration renew extensions of stay without the new WP being completed? I hope yes because it's an extension based on marriage.

Do you see any other problems I might run into?

Thanks a lot!

Don't forget that your work permit is tied to a specific company and address, so as soon as you start for the new company your old WP is immediately invalid and therefore, unless you hit immigration for a visa straight away you can find yourself liable for overstay.

No, I believe that's not a problem as it's an extension based on marriage, so it doesn't stop running (for only one month more) when the old WP gets invalid.

Ok, I'll take a stab at answering from my own experience of marriage extension, and having a WP ...

A. Looks like your present WP will not be valid when you start with the new company, so it would be best to apply for the new WP before 1st May. You won't be able to work for the new company without obtaining the new WP.

B. I would think that Immigration will either need to see the proof of personal earning (40,000 baht/month) or the 400,000 baht in the bank for previous 2 months (or is it 3 months ??) Usually they need at least the last months tax paid and the annual 91 paper.

C. I would guess that Immigration will renew the extension based on the married financial requirements being met i.e. the money in the bank. Not sure about the salary method.

In summary, if you have the 400,000 baht in the bank then you should be Ok with extension. If not, then you most likely will have a problem.

The question is when fo you finish working for your old employer?

If you continue to work for the old company till 31st May, you need to ask permission from your old employer to add the new employer to your work permit. Your WP and extension will than both stay valid till 31st May, and you just apply for an extension of both in due time.

Thanks for the answer. I hope you're wrong though because I don't have the 400.000.
