I am moving to Thailand in June and I am bringing my cat. I have all the shots and am in the process of getting the necessary health certificates, etc but I keep reading that I need to complete paperwork at the Bangkok Airport and that I need to contact their immigration office prior to my flight. I have called a few times and can never speak to anyone who is very fluent in English and can't get a response to my question which is -

Do need to get a form or document from them prior to my flight so that they already have it on file and know when and where I am arriving with the cat or do I just get the form on the airplane and present it through the normal immigration process. I fear getting there and not having what I need and them wanting to put the cat in quarantine.

Any help will be appreicated.

Thanks.

Alyssa, welcome to the forum

Suggest you PM a moderator and ask them to move your post to the correct sub-forum (the one dealing with pets) so you can get more & better responses

Suggest you also scan that sub-forum where you will find many accounts by others who have gone through the same process (I can't comment on coming from the US - we came from Australia and the regs/process are a little different)

Hi,

We arrived 3 weeks ago with 2 dogs and 2 cats from Bahrain. We brought them excess luggage which is what we had been advised to do. It may not be that simple from the US. If so there is what we had to do.

The dogs had UK Pet Passports and the cats originated in Bahrain had proof of rabies shots and vaccinations.

We had a Government Health Certificate from the Bahrain vets to prove they were fit to travel and had recently had tick and worm treatment administered.

We notified Gulf Airways, the first carrier and we had to go to their office in Bahrain and give weights of each animal including cages. We notified Thai Airways local office in Bahrain and carried out the same information over the phone and then went to their office in Bahrain. Both offices issued us with a receipt of weights. This also showed our booking reference for the flight.

This was then given to booking in clerk on arrival at the airport and they took our animals from there. We paid excess luggage charges for each animal.

When we arrived in Bangkok you will find your cats will arrive at overweight baggage area, but there is more than one of these areas and no one told us. We did find our pets and then took to the correct office for animal imports next to the last overweight luggage desk. Although English was limited, they knew what to do and it all went smoothly.

Hope this helps.

You need to have an import permit, see: http://www.dld.go.th/dcontrol/move/imex_e.html

Click here and you get the document which you need to fill in and send to the AQS in BKK.

I think emailing them is easier than phoning.
