MSingh Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Boston of all places !! Can't imagine the Gers will be well recieved at all & it's a recipe for disaster in my opinion, especially being in Boston.. Thoughts ?? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/t...ers/8651346.stm A senior Rangers supporters' representative has urged the club not to pursue plans to play Celtic in Boston in a pre-season friendly. Ross Blyth, vice-president of the Rangers Supporters' Assembly, says the club should "look elsewhere". It follows a scathing article on the Boston Globe newspaper website about past behaviour of Rangers fans. The author of the article, Mark Stokes, has since apologised for remarks he made about the 1971 Ibrox Disaster. In the article, which has since been removed from the website, Stokes listed a catalogue of reasons why a proposed pre-season friendly between Rangers and Celtic would be bad for Boston and its citizens.
salty Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 It would be a security nightmare. Huge Number of Irish and Irish descent in the area would overwhelmingly support Celtic. Rangers likely to get a hostile reception. Far better they go their seperate ways on North American tour.
NADTATIDA1 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Is there such a thing as a friendly between these two? anywhere!

Madness... Rangers along with Celtic, are hugely supported in the US & as you say, it'll juts be a Security Nightmare.. Who thinks up this kind of <deleted> ??
carmine Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I don't think this match will go ahead since the Boston Globe newspaper has just seen it fit to print an article blaming the 1971 Ibrox disaster on tensions between rival supporters. Apparently Rangers to make a written complaint to the paper. Not really the build up to a friendly.

salty Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Rangers have withdrawn from tour of US and will play in a pre season tournament in Australia. The proposed game in Boston was to be played in Fenway Park home of the Boston Red Sox. Not surprising as it is likely the New York Yankees would get a better welcome. http://sport.scotsman.com/football/Rangers...lash.6282446.jp
Jockstar Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 the SPL champions will head to Sydney, where they will play three matches, with their opponents looking likely to be Boca Juniors from Argentina, Blackburn Rovers and local team Sydney FC. Nearly missed this. Looking forward to it already. "Instead, there is the possibility of matches in Australia and an announcement on that will be made in the next couple of days."A Rangers visit to Australia's largest city, where all three games are likely to be played, would attract huge interest from Scottish expatriates in the area. Lovely. I'll be there.
