When applying for a Non-Immigrant Visa"O-A" (Long Stay) in the UK.

Can anyone (ideally who's actually done it) clarify what the Thai Embassy requires exactly ?

Is it a "notarized" bank statement showing the equivalent of Bht 800,000, or is it proof of an annual INCOME of Bht 800,000?

Also, is it London or Hull who will actually issue an "O-A" off the bat?

- I am NOT talking about an "O" that can be changed to an "O-A" in Thailand, I am NOT talking about 1 year extensions

Thanks :-)

The point of my post was to clarify from "real" experiences

Non-Immigrant Visa"O-A"

Bit old but I got my last one in March 2004 in Birmingham UK, they did not want Police report or money proof. Only here in Thailand did they want proof of money for the yearly extensions.

As is always the best phone or email them and ask

You received the non immigrant type O visa, which gives you 90 days on entry in Thailand and then subsequently can extended to 1 year after proving financial means...

The non immigrant O-A however gets you 365 days when entering Thailand. No need for extension. This however requires you to prove your financial means in the country where you apply. This visa can be very convenient to people not wishing to transfer a big sum into Thailand in one time.

Sorry, by mentioning your extension I was of the impression that you had the regular O one, assumed you did the extension in the first 90 days...Indeed if after 1 year you want to extend you need to show the funds in Thailand (or income).

Still strange, maybe 6 years ago it was different.

Now, for the O-A, you need to have police clearance and show the funds in the country you apply.

It was not different as police report and money proof have always been required. Either the Consulate made a serious mistake or immigration did. Can you post photos of the visa/entry stamps (after removing personal data?).

You are sure you did not provide these documents to the Consulate? It may have just been a local paper from police and copy of bank statement?

I think across the road have a flat bed scanner, they are at work now... My old one from UK flat bed scanner would not work in Vista also will not work in '7'

Edit: Have no reason to buy a new one as have a 5 in 1 fax but can only scan badly single pages

It was crazy as at the time I had to wait 7 weeks for the Police report, and when I arrived at the Consulate in Birmingham they did not want it. I had a Bank account in Thailand for years before but nowhere near 800k in it.

A Question.. if you have had a ‘0-A’ before, is a new Police report needed? maybe a reason?

I had a ‘0-A’ before the one in 2004……. Also as some know this March I was unable to meet the 800k so went to Oz and got a yearly ‘0’ so will be my 1st ever boarder run later this month.. In OZ I asked about the ‘0-A’ yes you need the 800k + has to be notarized in OZ but do NOT need the Police report. ?? :) confusing right.. The ‘0-A’ is good for 2 years she told me.

A new police report would still be reuired.

You either get a single O-A or a multiple. A sigle O-A means you get a 1 year permission to stay when you enter. A multiple means that during the 1 year validity of the visa, each time you ente Thailand you get a permission to stay for 1 year. So by leaving and re-entering a day before the visa expires you can get 2 years out of the visa. But you will have to leave the country once for that.

After the visa is expired you would need a re-entry permit to keep your permision to stay alive if you want to leave Thailand.

A lot of scanners were make obsolete with Vista/7 as they never issued new drivers but you might check your scanner model and see if there is a driver that can work. Sometimes a third party will even make (but you need to be security aware as drivers are often used for nasty reasons).

If done at same Consulate they may have had your police report on file and not required a new one (as you likely would not have been living there anyhow). But they should always require proof of 800k or 65k (does not have to be in Thailand) but perhaps they were trusting on that also if you had done previously. But for a normal new OA they are required and most people only get one OA and then start to use extensions of stay.
