I was thinking of an Expat Union that could stand up for the rights of us expats / farangs here in Thailand.

How come we do not have a real voice except to complain here on the forum about stupid things imposed to us which noone inside immigration or politics care ?

Are we just good to be milked for all we have till we have no more money left and we are 'asked to leave' in 7 days, even you bought a condo, car, etc...

I was reading about the picking on new and non excisting rules at immigration ... they moved many months ago but on their website is still the old address...

and info about papers that you need, where no info is available ...

Last year set of papers seem to be not enough anymore ... I personally spend yesterday away from home at 7.30 (arrived at 8.30) till .... 4 pm ...

New demands for a set of papers led me to foreign affairs for a silly stamp, than off to the local town hall for another set, where I met an farang hating official...

Had just legalised an already by ambassy approved translation for marriage certificate, and that dam_n thing was doubting the validity of my offical papers ???

Is it to keep that army of people putting stamps on a multitude of copies at work ?

I would rather prefer to pay a yearly 'tax' of a certain amount and not have all the bullshxt every year again and again, till I die ...

Any toughts ?

I think its a bad time for such an idea. It is still unclear when all the dust settles here in Thailand whether there will even be expats here. Thais are not going to welcome this now (or maybe never) but certainly not now.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I think you have not yet grasped the concept of expat living. Especially expat living in Asia.

Be fare, the OP makes a good point, BUT forgets that the Thai people have to deal with the same rubber stamp crap in their daily lives. Yesterday a guy came round with a lot of paperwork to fill in and sign by the mrs, copy of ID, house book etc, I said 'what's all that for' she said 'To empty the bin each week' :D

God knows what happens to all the paperwork.

In the bin!

Thais seems to LOVE their paperwork......everything they do in any official manner is in triplicate....lots of stamps and signatures...police,lawyers.hotels,land office....easier to just accept and give it to them.

Also good for those small photo copy booths and translation businesses.

" How come we do not have a real voice"

We are basically "guests" ( and paying one's at that ) and basically have NO legal standing.

If unable to comprehend that you have little/ no rights, then it would be time to head home...

That's rule number 1

# 2 - You are non- Thai and not a Thai citizen.

# 3 - You never will be.

# 4 - That's the way it is and always will be.

# 5 - When in doubt always refer to number 4

I constantly question myself on why I'm here and why I remain here.. well, I guess for me the good outweighs the bad on a daily basis. ( and I let the wife handle all the daily crap that could frustrate and or piss me off, leaving me to enjoy my life of so little luxury. )
