Air-con Unit Suppliers / Installers

Featured Replies

I need to have a couple of small air-con units (9-12000 BTU/hr) supplied and fitted in two bedrooms. I also need to have my one existing unit serviced. Does anyone have any specific recommendations for companies to do this work in the Pattaya area, or indeed any that should be avoided? There are many potential sources of units, including the super-stores, but some are bound to be better than others.

On a related issue, does anyone have experience of the polyeurethane foam insulation that can be sprayed onto the underside of roof tiles? Is it effective? What is the approx. cost for a 3-bed bungalow?

Any advice gratefully received.

I had one about the size you are looking for, installed last November. The place my landlady suggested was going to charge 18,000 for the unit and installation. The landlady got them down to 17,000, and then, when they showed up to do the job, she got them to knock another 500 off the price !

I don't have their business card with me, but if you can speak Thai (or know someone who can), I can PM you my landlady's mobile # (I think she kept their business card).

[SIZE=14]I've always used any of the small shops that sell aircons. I just had my three aircons cleaned and serviced about 2500 baht.

I can highly recommend ARC Company. This is a farang company that has been in business for a number of years. They do air conditioning, PVC windows and spay foam insulation and their prices are as good as, or better than any. I have experienced the difference the spray foam makes beneath roofs and it is significant. I will PM you the contact details.

Try Central Air, a few doors along from ARC. Have nad about 50 plus units fitted and I don't think you will match their prices anywhere.

They spray directly on the back side of your roof tiles in many cases. Best you contact them directly for full details. I will PM to you.

GG,

Do they spray in the attic? Also does the A?C cycle less now that you have the insulation?

Thanks for this info. I have decided to go with ARC as they can do the new units and also the spray insulation. Having talked to them they seem to know what they are about.

They are supplying and fitting two new units - one at 18,000BTU and another at 9,000BTU. They are also relocating my existing 12000BTU unit to one of my smaller bedrooms and will do a service on it at the same time.

They will also spray insulate my roof - and install some forced ventillation as this will stop some of the heat build-up during the day. The insulation costs an arm and a leg and the ventilation isn't cheap either (total cost about 110,000Baht) so I shall probably never get my money back but it should make the house a lot more comfortable to live in. Hopefully will also add value on resale.

Cheers

DM

I'm sure you'll be happy with their work. They are currently doing over 100 air conditioning units for me as well as the spray foam under the large roof of a condo project and so far I have been very happy. Also know may who have used them in the past with success. Cheers

when you get the aircon delivered lift the lid and check to see what compressor is inside as one company here in Pattaya is branding Mitsubishi and they are not

so be warned the king has no clothes

You are better off just venting the roof than putting foam inside.

Foam holds the heat IN the roof and every evening you will roast.

Foam also continues to expand when sprayed on and push the tiles up.

I have had seven leaks over 5 years as a result.

As I write this I am sitting here cooking in a rainstorm with water dripping through the ceiling. Don't care what guarantee they give you it is absolute rubbish!

One of the reasons I am building a new house is to get as far away from this foamed in roof as possible.

Use the plain silver foil, and vent the roof space.

I have to concur with Rimmer here and find the foam insulation seriously over rated...

Where I live there are 7 houses in the estate, all of them with the alufoil lined rockwool on the ceiling, combined with one of those turning balls on the roof letting the hot air out (combined with ample ventilation to let outside air in to replace this hot air.

One owner decided to get all that stuff out and spray foam his roof tiles instead (at a serious high cost). The temperature inside his house has gone up at least a couple degrees, as much so that it is now uncomfortable to stay in without running aircon, especially during the day! The ceiling fans now feel like hair dryers blowing on your body!!!

Didn't hear yet about the foam pushing up the tiles after a couple of years, and they are actually promoting that waterproofing is an added advantage of the foam insulation!!!!

Please note I have nothing against ARC, they actually do a very good job on AC's, it's just the foam thingy I don't really like...

Yep s'right, I am sitting here in a rainstorm with the air con running and water dripping on to the ceiling from the last leak. The problem with any foam is stopping it expanding when it comes out of the gun. It keeps on going and pushes the tiles up.

I have personally been on my roof and repaired the sections where the foam has lifted up the C Pack tiles causing the front of the tiles to be higher than the back.

I really feel quite strongly about this rubbish having spent over 200k to have it put in and maybe another 50k on extra air con running costs.

OH the other really good thing! (not) UBC will not come into my house and lay the cables in the roof eves because they can't lift the tiles up.......

Arnold Judas Rimmer of Jupiter Mining Corporation Ship Red Dwarf

I had my house insulated with the foam from the same company and they dont spray the whole roof space they leave room for the outside air to come in around the edge and I can lift the roof tile to get a cable into. I have not had any problems with water coming in and it was done over 6 years ago. Before I had it done my house was like a oven but now along with the double glassing and the foam with extractor its a lot better. I think it all depends on who does the job at the time, I am sorry rimmer that you had so many problems with it I must be lucky that they did a good job with my house.
