Gordon Brown and George W Bush should start a business together. How could those two intellects fail?

Only if they hire Tony as manager. :)

Sterling went from 47.2 to 47.7 after the news. Hardly soaring!

Unless there is a real increase in the forex rate v baht I think we're about to see what really will happen when the tourism industry collapses. Pattaya's never been quieter.

Poms will never stop whingeing, as it's our national pastime.

dam_n fine to see brown finally admit that the voters just don't like him. Biggest loser in town. Good riddance. As one commentator said on BBC, the economic crisis didn't destroy the UK economy, it just exposed the fact that brown had already destroyed it, and there was just a facade left waiting to fall.

Not so good news for me.

The Tories have said that they are going to increase the mens pension age to 66. This means I will (if still alive) receive my state pension in another 8 years instead of 7. Plus an extra 2 years later for my claim of the additional amount for my dependant Thai wife.

And of course if the £ does grow stronger, but the baht weakens as may be the case, than we are back to square one again.

I wouldn`t break out that bottle of Champagne and start celebrating, just yet.

I stopped figuring the State Pension into any retirement to Thailand plans/figures a long time ago, and am quite suprised others here still do.

Apart from it being on the paltry side, its frozen when you reach retirement age, anyway.

P*ss poor ROI paid in on something paid into for nearly 50 years too !!!!

I just see it as a "nice little bonus to look forward to" now

No wonder many of you Brits look down on us Americans. When people insult us, we get offended. However, you lot actually revel in it!

user-offline.pngroamer Now all the UK expats can stop whingeing

Stop whinging? I don't think that is very likely. :D

Whingeing, yes I suppose we are but the pound has dropped nearly 32% in just over 3 year's. The euro has faired even worse. I think we have a sort of right to have a little bit of a pop....

The £ to soar?? :):D

Cameron, Brown, Clegg are all a bunch of tossers really and don't care about the average Joe and care even less about the Expats in Thailand and around the world. As with any politician it is ME ME ME and then they think of others.

Whinge? Us Brits? We love it.

Don't you lot do irony ? The only reason I started this topic with that header was in the hope it would not be instantly deleted as non-Thailand related!!! Sterling to soar and Brits to stop whingeing. Yes I do believe in fairies, I do, I do ,I do :D

I'm dividing my time at the moment between London and Thailand and everywhere I look I see old etonians who were all classmates, the 2 PM's Abhisit and Dave, my mayor here in London Boris, and then the new chancellor George Osborne, whoever taught this class must be feeling pretty smug now.

The coalition is now being referred to on Twitter as the CLEGGERON!

I agree, UK ex-pats stop whinging, haven't we enough political problems in this land we are supposedly called visitors. There's nothing you can do about either countries problems. I'm sick and tired to the back teeth of hearing about it. I came here to rleax and get away from stress, not have more loaded on top of me... :)

By the way I am a Brit!

Yes, go and boil your head, it may turn out to be of better use. Who was it who got this world in to such a terrible mess? Look in to the mirror son, the reflection will give you a true story.

Whingeing is the national pass time of the UK. :)

If I wanted to whinge then I would whinge about spelling pastime as pass time................but I don't have the time to pass.........have the money to buy a beer or two without complaining about the price though.

I think you better read a few history books about the British Empire before pointing the finger at anyone else. :)

It does make you proud, doesn't it?

To have given the world the largest and greatest democracies, the rule of law, the lingua franca (is that irony?) and not one, but two comic messiahs.

And, the most persistent whingers on the planet; people who can whinge about even the most temperate of weather, the price of anything, no matter how cheap or undesirable, and some of the most shiftless shirkers you could shake a stick at.

Its enough to make you tattoo a union jack on your beer gut, so it is.

I'll miss Uncle Gordon's beady eye on the economy, though...

As my heritage is Irish, I'm not usually disposed to support the British, but if we can assume that the world was going to be colonised by Europeans regardless, I think the British did a better job than most of the other states. Have you never heard of Pax Britannica?

For a really bad colonial empire, you only have to look at the Belgian Congo. In comparison, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore seem to have come off quite well.

Of the commonwealth countries that haven't done so well since independence, there's an explanation which I'm not going to discuss here.
