Thaksin drops plan to join jump team

BANGKOK: Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has decided against joining a mass parachute jump in January aimed at breaking the world record to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen's birthday.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Chavalit Yongchaiyudh said the air force had invited Mr Thaksin to preside over the event on Jan 24 next year.

Mr Thaksin had initially expressed his wish to take part in the planned mass jump involving 672 World Team parachutists, but later changed his mind citing his lack of experience with manually-operated parachutes.

The World Team would consist of parachutists from 40 countries and would stage its mass jump over Sanam Luang.

The event would be held to honour the Queen's birthday which falls on August 12. However, the air force has scheduled the mass jump on Jan 24, the eve of Armed Forces Day.

Decided against, come on now - do you really believe any of his nonsense, the only jumping he's good at is jumping bail.
