Does anyone know the number of days in advance to renew a Retirement Visa?

Also, does anyone know if this varies from office to office?

PaceArrow :)

Last year had my retirement visa renewed 45 days in advance at BKK office. I thought it could be as much as 60 days.

Checked with Lopburi office and they said No, 30 day advance maybe a little more due to circumstances. I want to depart

back to USA in June and return late October. Recommended no need for Reentry permit, obtain Non-Immg Visa stateside

before coming back. I was thinking perhaps I could go to Laos or Cambodia Thai Embassy have it taken care of before I

depart Thailand, anyone do this before?

I always go in on day it is due. If due on the weekend I go the friday before the date. But from previous posts it is my understanding up to a week before. When retired have all the time in the world .

The normal window is 30 days - you can do up to the last day. If you have tickets out they may make arrangements to do early for you (and a few might do anyhow - Pattaya has often done up to 60 days early).

Last year I did mine on May 18th, my expiration date was June 28th. But it is usually 30 days before expiration date as lopburi said. Also as he said, if you have an airline ticket with you, they will do it earlier. At least at Phuket Immigration. Or you can make a new one in your home country, you just need the medical certificate, criminal record print out, three photos and everything in triplicate...

Yes, Pattaya let you do it up to 30 days early. I like to do it a week or so early in case I forget something then I have time to sort it. Last time I went I was in & out in 14 minutes.

I don't think that would work. The best you could hope for would be a Non O that would be good for 90 days.

Once you returned to Thailand, prior to flying home or wherever, it would be activated. Once you flew out it would be canceled unless you had a re-entry permit. With a re-entry permit the best you'd get would be to retain your permission to stay date, which, it appears, expire while you were still abroad.

If you did get an O, you could try to extend it for a year before you left for home, but might run into the same problem of being too early. They'd probably tell you to return when you have 30 days or less left on the visa.

I'd suggest going to imm with your flight plans ans ask if you can extend your current extension a bit early.

Thanks to everyone who had responded! I think the suggestion about going ahead with flight plan and purchase re-entry permit and ask for extension on retirement visa be granted may be the way to go right now!

Thanks again for all your advice!

The most current info I have is that Pattaya will do these TWO MONTHS early with no excuse or proof of travel needed whatsoever. This was reduced from THREE MONTHS. I am not sure if they will do three months early WITH proof of travel, but I bet they would.

Well just returned from Korat Immigration Office today to have my Retirement Extension approved!!  Result denied, had only 6 months of Monthly Deposits exceeding 65K per month. Met with the Head of the Office, she wouldn't consider the Police Order Memo 0029.173/Wor Dated 26 Dec 2018 by LtGen Surachet Hakpal to allow a waiver of leniency for applicants who have less than one year this year!!! Instead she wanted 20K under the table to do so!!! I walked out of the office!!! Now I need to go to another office that allows it or to the Bangkok Main Office!!!

Have you got  a lump sum that might help to qualify using combination method? (Other than the 20k under the table).

NO!!! The issue is she wanted a Bribe to get around what has previously been approved by Thai Immigration Bureau!!!!

On a similar subject, how old can the Income Affidavit be? (The affidavit from the embassy, in my case Canadian.)

Say my visa extension expires Dec 30th. (Non 0, 12 month extension)

So I go to Chaeng Wathana and apply for new extension on, say, Dec 1st. All good, less than 30 days before it expires.

And the Embassy affidavit for my income verification was signed Nov 1st, it is now one month old at the time I'm applying for extension. Is that OK?

What the Affidavit is 6 weeks old when I apply for the extension 30 days before expiry?

Income affidavit is valid for 6 months from date of issue.  As long as it is not older than six months when you make application it should be accepted.

Problem is that you can only apply at the office that covers the area you live.

You might have to move.

I have some folks suggesting that I should just go ahead and negotiate perhaps a better tea money deal with Korat officer rather than chase around getting a Non-O 90 day visa from Laos, request a 60 day extension, which would give me 150 days and then I would have the 12 monthly deposits, however then I would be applying for a new Retirement Visa under the new rules, rather than continue with my string of 10 extensions in the books. Thoughts comments, anyone else!!!!

Which makes no difference unless there is a change, with grandfathering, within that time.

As far as I know each application for an Extension based on retirement should be under the rules and requirements in effect at that time, so should not be a factor in your thoughts. The only different case would be for someone who has grandfathered the old requirements since 1998. Of course agent applications will vary.

So would I be correct in inferring that the new non-O visa plus subsequent 60-day extension would, in your case, both be on the grounds of being married to a Thai national?

You go on the due date, which would be the leave by date of the extension. So what would you plan on doing if for any reason your application was rejected? Would you just become an overstayer or make a sudden rush for the border, or get the first flight out of the country? Do you go to the immigration office with your bags actually packed or have them waiting at home? Or no plans?

Good news, received my Retirement Extension today from Korat office, after being denied last week over the less than 12 monthly income deposits. What happened, a personal trip to the Immigration Bureau BKK yesterday with the higher ups on clarification of Police memorandum dated 26 December spelling out the guidance on waiving those months during the first year of transition period with phone calls to Div !V boss to make it happen. Very satisfied with the results, they were very nice to me today!
