Hi,

I'm travelling to Thailand later this month for summer holiday to visit my grandparents. While I'm there I'm suppose to go to Bang Na with my auntie to apply for my new Thai passport. Because I'm only 19, according to the information on the ministry of interior website, I need my parents to sign consent form at the office. However, on this trip I will be travelling alone while both of my parents stay at home in England, therefore my mum will have to write and sign a notarized consent letter instead. So I was wondering, does this notarized letter have to be in Thai? Or can she just write it in English?

MFA:

Applicants between the ages of 15-20 are not required to be accompanied by their parents

when applying for an e-Passport. However, both parents are required to sign the parental

consent from in front of the Passport Office’s authorized personnel otherwise the applicant

has to submit a notarized parental consent letter signed by parents or a legal guardian.

Both parents will have to sign a notarized letter, if your mother has sole custody over you she should provide proof of that as well.

Applying for a passport in the UK will take about 3 weeks. If you apply in Thailand, you will need to be on someones Tabien barn and have a Thai ID-card. (Maybe having a Thai ID-card is enough, not sure if you need both).

Which raises the point, was the OP born in Thailand, or the UK. If the latter, much easier to get a Thai passport at the Thai Embassy in London, according to numerous posts on the forum.

He is applying for a new Thai passport, so where he was born doesn't matter anymore. Only the point if he has a Thai ID-card or not (and possibly if registered on a tabien barn).

Seems you don't need the tabien ban:

Documents required for applicants between the ages of 15-20

Citizenship I.D. Card or an identification card which complies to the rules of the Ministry of Interior

A notarized parental consent letter and certified copies of parents’ Citizenship I.D. Cards

Other relevant documents such as Change of Name or Surname Certificate,

Adoption/Legal Custody Certificate/ Divorce Certificate, Memorandum of Divorce certifying sole custody, Death Certificate, Alien Certificate
