Return and serve sentence, ex-senator tells Thaksin

By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Former senator Somkiat Onwimon yesterday called on former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to return to Thailand to serve his jail term and defend himself in court in the other cases.

Somkiat's Twitter response was in reaction to Thaksin's latest messages on the Thaksinlive Twitter page. The former premier posted his messages again yesterday after he posted his last Twitter message on June 8.

In his latest message, Thaksin attacked the Abhisit government as being a dictatorial regime, which was abusing the laws as tools to persecute its political opponents.

Thaksin said the government was simply paying lip service when it said it was pushing for reconciliation.

"The government says it is pushing for reconciliation but its behaviours showed that it is harassing others. The reconciliation in the meaning of the government is suppression of pro-democracy people," Thaksin tweeted.

He called on the government to hold talks with its opponents and said he would be willing to support the talks. He said the government would not have to worry about him when holding talks with the red-shirt movement.

But Somkiat said Thailand need not reach any reconciliation with Thaksin.

"Thaksin needs only to comply with the laws. Thaksin and his supporters, who have been ruled guilty by the court, must return to Thailand to face their due penalties," Somkiat said.

Somkiat said Thaksin, the red-shirt people, the yellow-shirt people and black-shirt gunmen could not seek compromise with courts but they must defend themselves in court and accept the penalties handed down by judges.

Somkiat said the red-shirt people and Pheu Thai MPs should stop fighting for Thaksin but should start educating themselves about real democracy.

Somkiart also challenged Thaksin to write a book to defend himself instead of posting messages on the Twitter page.

"If you post a few sentences on the Twitter page each day, you won't be able communicate what you believe is truth," Somkiat said, challenging Thaksin.

"I would like you to show your courage by expressing your truth in a way that can be used as a reference."

Somkiat said he used to give his advice to Thaksin through some aides, urging him to return to serve his jail term after which he could rebuild the mass support with democratic ideology and wisdom.

Somkiat said he believed that the advice had never been given to Thaksin.

"Khun Thaksin, you should come back to Thailand to face what you need to face so that Thais could see that you are brave enough to face the consequences of your deeds," Somkiat said.

If Thai's keep thinking like this, Thailand has a good future

Thaskin is an opportunist and will swear blind that black is really white if it would advantage him

No matter what the Government does to help the Thai people Thaskin will twist is all around and say it is bad

As long as there are those who can profit by Thaskin's money there will be no peace in Thailand

I have never heard any one say

Lets remove the Security cover and we will take responsibility for any Red Shirt problems this creates

What they really want is to remove the Security cover so the Red Shirt can return to making problems for the Thai people

Does this Kuhn T. understand irony at all?

Or just round the twist an extra turn?

Anybody who calls for the red shirt criminals to do jail time without calling for the yellow shirts criminals to do time, or vice versa, only shows what gang they belong to.

Thailand will break apart if Sondhi and Thaksin are not BOTH in jail before the next elections. There is quite simple ways to make that happen.

Thaksin is a pure opportunist.

He has nothing to gain if he is overseas.

He can only make/cheat billions if he returns to Thailand, and NOT put in jail.

You are correct, I somehow missed that sentence. So did the headline writer!

Return and serve sentence, ex-senator tells Thaksin & [sic]Sondhi[sic]

Thank you for pointing that out to me. It makes for a doubling of Thai dignitaries who could, possibly, be trusted. My Post was also aimed at the brainwashed red AND yellow fanatics who haunt these denizens, so I STAND by it. It's like taking sides with one mob over the other to choose red OR yellow.

How many decades is CRES going to be in place???

After reading almost every topic here i have a neutral question about it all:

as i only live Thailand 2 years and analyzing all that political "noise"

I ask you all those against Thaksin and those in favor Thaksin ,

if Thailand is better now than under his government.

As i read on other topics that Thailand is not so good anymore as before....,I can not judge about that as i am only now here 2 year so... , i can only remark that he was elected , stepped down voluntary because a "problem " that the opposition accused him for, . By new elections he won again , half the Thais really seems to like him ,

AND a coup from military ousted him.

So.... my analysis about him , is he good or bad..? In any way whatever he is Evil or Good he is good in what he does ... ..., It seems he run Thailand as his businesses , and those where successfully ( yeah i hear already .....corruption....., but is the Government in power any different .?? )

He shall stay a major factor in Thailand if they like it or not .....and whiteout REAL reconciliation an d recognition of the lower class it will end very bad...

Not my problem as i know i am only 3 hours away from Cambodia if hel_l breaks REALLY lose here^_^

Right now Thailand is worse off than when he was here, but only because the last few years Thailand has had to endure all kinds of political 'noise' surrounding him, including several major protests, with the last one being very disruptive to the country and her economy. This comes from both sides, Red and Yellow.

I think, if these political uprisings had not had happened and Thailand could concentrate on her future instead of her past, Thailand would be better off now.

Anyone who compares the airport scene to the destruction and killings and violence against soldiers and brothers shows they need to reconsider the details! They didn't burn down their capital city! However proposterous both occurences are, they are night and day. One a huge protest, the other a rebel scene for a Somalia or Liberia video.

Guss you show your real colors too! But better you forget about colors, thats the heart of the problem!

And so is the rest of the world - it's because there's a global recession.

Neither Thaksin, nor Abhisit can make any real claims for the rise & fall of Thailands economy of late because they were both passive players in that respect.

Neither Thaksin, nor Abhisit has resolved any of the issues that really need tackling in Thailand - such as the terrible education system. Whilst most Thais get a second rate education (and I include most graduates in that group), it will never be able to move up the value chain and be seen as anything other than a provider of grunts for low paid work. I say this as a guy that runs a software company with all Thai staff too...

There are cheaper and smarter grunts in China and India, now. Thailand is making very few logistical improvements here.

What Thailand does have here, is cheap people and a supply of readily available hookers which is keeping a lot of businesses in Thailand. There really is no benefit to being here over other countries any more, except the fact that you can round of a meeting with a bunch of Japanese guys with a nut rub in Thaniya. It is the pussy economy and it needs to change because it wont last.

I love the way the media hype keeps pushing this agenda. No-one wants Thaksin back as the country WILL run into civil war so let's stop the facade. There are 16 charges pending his return and you think 2 years jail will sort him out? He will be given life + and then all hel_l will break loose if it hasn't already on his return. The courts waited until he was convicted on the first round. Bingo - the 76Bn will be held with 40+Bn already dispersed whilst the Law looks into the balance. Yeah right. Kiss it good bye Takky.

But then the new cases are starting and these were compounded by the latest terrorist charges for financing the Reds and calling for the burning - on video and in print and the courts will take as long as it takes. Takky just keeps opening his mouth to change feet!

So you really think he will ever return under the present system? Naaahhh c'mon - time for another beer!
