Walking Street

Featured Replies

Maybe somebody should point out to all motorbike drivers in FV that it is actually a one way street.

You live in hope my Friend - how about Chaweng, Nathon, Lamai, to name but a few other places with one way streets that are blatantly ignored. Driving either motorbykes or cars is not a strong point of many who live on Samui and I mean Thai and Foreigner alike. Each time you go out on the ring road it is like a whole new adventure each time:unsure:

driving all around the island since decades, I can say it is quite normal and no one gives a hook about that, but new Farang. So what? no one speeds against the one way, at least on Chaweng and FV, no danger at all in this case.

What is the concept of a " walking" street. What are the aims or the end results they are striving for? I am just lost . In Chiang Mai , it's a very huge, with lots of products & handicrafts ,which the area is famous for, as well as the usual food & T shirts .

I just don't grasp this one here, so far it's as previously said, predominantly food sellers, A couple of restaurants have some samples & the dive shop has some odds & ends on offer.

I agree. Its neither one thing nor the other....cheap v expensive.....farang oriented nah.....but the Thais simply won't pay the prices in the shops there. Hence the resistance for the resaurants and bars etc to be more involved. Better advertising to get more tourists up there would be a good place to start.

I have to say though its a pleasant atmosphere and just needs a clearer direction to work well.

I agree. It is great to see FV alive for a change. At the moment, in reality, all it is is just the old FV plus more people plus snack stalls. Given the size of the street and the existing tenants, I am not sure how it can be much different?

I have difficulty believing it is not bringing extra revenue, albeit not a huge amount for the restaurants there.

In answer to Rooo, I guess a 'walking street' is a traffic free zone to relax in. Shop, browse, snack, eat, drink, watch the world go by? Specialised shopping would be great, but is there room for this?
