Hi All,

From what I have read here on TV I get the impression that what one is buy a brand new car from a main dealer that things like insurance etc. are included, for free, more or less as standard?

I got a quote from a main dealer yesterday for a City and they are charging 28,500 for insurance and registration. My wife enquired as to what deal they could offer on this cost and basically we were told nothing ..... "honda do not offer free insurance" .... or something to that effect. I would be paying 30% down and the rest on finance.

From reading TV, I get the impression that most dealers include insurance, reistration, servicing, and even a couple of extras like darkened windows or some thing like that. Have I understood correctly?

dealers/sales staff have a certain amount to play with on each car model. it can be used for insurance, low finance interest or other stuff. Honda Jazz and City are well known for small such budgets.

When you finance, you are not free to choose insurance the first year.

Check with some other dealers to get a better quote

Thanks for the reply.

So there is no point in pressing the issue, better to just shop around at a few different dealers and comapre quotes?

I brought a financed new Camry, they made me pay for insurance for the first year. They threw in lots of extras free but wouldn't go for the insurance. I tried both pattaya dealers and settled for the one on the beach side of sukemvit. If you go in there the girl Kik was very helpful and even did the paperwork to sell my old car to my friend.

the promotions vary from Honda centrally and the dealers. At worst I payed 10k over stickerpice to get a Fortuner in 2005. Waiting list was several months, and I needed it immediately. So no free insurance or any other freebie. sales rep simply "stole" it from another customer

"best" deal was my 950k baht 2010 Vigo delivered in November 2009. 70k baht in insurance and freebies in addition to low interest on finance. 2 months later 2 friends ordered identical Vigos, and it was down to 15k freebies. sales had improved, dealers and manufactorer where at full speed again with low promos.

yepp, shop around, then bring best quote to the dealer you prefere and try to close a deal

The sales price usually includes 'free' insurance and other 'free' accessories as you state.

But you can get at least 20k discount, depending on model, if you don't want the 'free' items.

That's how it is at Toyota.

I have been very happy with the Toyota dealer you used, as I have said previously, but I recently bought a new Prerunner and used the "Toyota Visions" dealer in Rayong (the main Rayong dealer). By comparison they made the Pattaya dealers, showroom, servicing and servicing waiting room look as if they were from the depths of Issan, a few decades ago, which surprised me.

28,500 THB for Tabien Rot, Por Ror Bor and 1st class insurance on a City is ludricrous - that's at least 5K overpriced.

They must be feeling lucky at that dealership you're visiting!

The city has at least 40K of discount in it, so you should be able to get all of the above free, plus free tint and some bolt-on accessories. Shop around!

I recently bought a Nissan Navara in the Rayong dealership and the same comparison about the Pattaya dealers apply's as with Toyota.Clearly in Pattaya they think trees grow into the sky.

For the OP,as I stated in another topic previously, shop around and try to overbluff the salesmen.Worked for me everytime I bought a car in Thailand.Just tell them that you get this and that at the competition, doesn't have to be true as they also dare to lie sometimes, and look how far you get.Don't be afraid to walk out if you don't get what you want, you never can lose as they are happy to sell you a car at every corner of the street.

Bought a jazz will be delivered soon but no free insurance but a lot of other freebies. Anyway i wanted a dear near us so i did not shop around too much. I must say the insurance was a lot cheaper than that one that you mentioned even after i increased coverage.

As we all, know there is not such thing as "free". Generally speaking when these offers are made by the Dealer one can negotiate a 'discount' amount then go out and buy the services oneself. In the case of insurance one can usually get a better coverage/lower premium/better insurance company by obtaining ones own insurance.

Remember motor Dealers are not insurance experts and in times of need (an accident etc) then they can be of little use. Use a licensed Broker and have someone on your side if there's a problem.

Many car dealers have body repairshops. Bodyrepairshops are the real insurance experts. Knowing who accepts proper quality repair jobs with original parts and who pay their bills.

Toyota Phuket, only about 10 insurancecompanies have credit for a repair. No credit, you pay the repair yourself and hope to get a check from the insurancecompany a month or two later. Tryed it, very exciting, good it was only 30-40k baht and not 500k baht.
