Body Size Fascism By Thai Clothes Vendors

This is nothing new in any country. Stores buy and sell the sizes that they think will sell. Often the manufacturer, only offers sizes that they think will sell. In the US I tried to buy my girlfriend clothes at Fredrick's of Hollywood several times. The store specializes in sexy female clothes and under wear. I was never able to find anything in her size, a size "0" yet they have most stuff in a size 24? How could anyone look sexy that is a size 24? They completely left the small sexy petite girl out of their marketing plan. Go figure.

a little off topic, but to those that want to assume Thai people cant think, keep in mind that not everyone who is a thinker has to be a talker :)

Major conspiracy I say...... bet if you dig deep enough all the world leaders are in on it !

Dick Chaney and Haliburton have large holdings in Thai clothing companies.

Pretty much true to form remark!:D

JT I'm in the rag trade and you wouldn't believe what goes on as a matter of incompetence. This month, they produce too many smalls, the next all orange and no black or white , then all of one design and none of the other more popular one. Next month they change one colour in the design you were relying on because they ran out of dye. I wouldn't read too much in to this at this stage.

Are you sure? I was certain it was Thaksin who was being funded by a zionist gang that in turn was funded by conniving arab petro billionaires funneling funds through the Queen of England and the Pope. (Queen of Netherlands isn't involved because the the Dutch Royals have no fashion sense.)

The clothing is question is unattractive. Really, who wants to be seen in that? Besides, when has a small size ever stopped a farang from purchasing and wearing? Look around. Plenty of guys with their ginormous bellings protruding from their shirts. And then there are the women with their fat boobs falling out of their too small tank tops. Floppy saggy boobs for all to enjoy.

BTW, I would really like to buy some of those city name shirts. I think a lot of other foreigners would also, but the majority of us can't fit into them.

There is an I AM TOO FAT forum at this board, you can find it under 'Health, Body and Medicine'.

Its not all about being fat... i have a lot of trouble fitting into clothes too.. but that was my choice and i am certainly not fat.

You can be big without being fat.

Looking at your avatar you are probably also that what a fat gay would call 'body fascist'.

If the shirts were produced in farang sizes they would be more expensive.

Then the sh*t would really hit the fan on Thaivisa.

:whistling:

Larger sized clothes are already more expensive in Thailand. That is expected custom here, so no problem. Of course try that in the USA at a Walmart and there would be a riot!

It costs more to produce larger sized clothes but generally manufacturers and retailers average out the price over all sizes. Smaller, shorter people are in effect providing a small subsidy to buyers of large-sized clothes.

In the case of the non-availability of larger sized Green t-shirts, well it's either because there isn't (or isn't perceived to be) a large enough market to warrant manufacturing and stocking them, or, as poster mommysboy says, it's just incompetence that'll right itself in due course. Or consider that it makes sense for initial production runs to be of the more popular sizes.

Thais kinda racism at fat people. Calling them "Pum Bui" or "Uaan" Not nice at all.

Saw it many times. As soon as a Thai or Falang is overweight they call him/her with those names and total ignore

the real name.

I'm not sure that the terms "Pum Bui" or "Uaan" are the same as the English derogatory "Fatso".

In Hindi a fat person might be called "Motta" as in "Hey, motta, what do you think of this?" and it is not generally given or taken as an insult; it can even be a term of endearment.

My father's Cantonese nick name translated literally to 'fat boy' —but it was his best Chinese friends that called him that, friends who had stood by him through thick and thin.

But I suppose imagined put-downs can be as hurtful as actual ones.

Thais can think only as far as they can spit. (Not all ofcourse but most of them)

Is this is a new way of measuring IQ? I must've missed the memo.

Ha! That's funny. Maybe this is "reverse" body size fascism in the Western world? We had the same problem. Wifey is a 0...or even -1. XXS is best for her. Pretty much impossible to find in the US. And a joke at Walmart or any major retail chain. We could only find clothes for her at Victoria's Secret. And then, only in the catalog. And then, many times they were out...or just not available in XXS. And forget shopping in the kids section. Just not the right styles. It was really frustrating. So, when we made our yearly trips back here, she would fill a suitcase to take back. Cheaper also!

JT: I have seen these shirts. They are all over the place. Seem to be real popular. But like others have said, if it is targeted for the Thai market, they are not going to make XXXL. I'm a small guy and I prefer XL shirts here. Large are a bit too tight.

Not at all, unless you are obese, girls seem to prefer a guy slightly overweight/chubby over a slim or athletic guy. Which is really odd for us that are used to the other way around...and are suddenly told to eat more, not to train and get bigger muscles...

Just look at the look of most girls faces when a really beefed up guy walks past them...they are not impressed.

Yes your so right, thats why i get all the comments of girls who like beefed up guys. There are of course girls who dont like it. But could it be that the girl your with rather have you a bit less attractive so you attract less girls. I mean if they don't like how you look at first why would they even select you.

For the record there is a point of diminishing returns you can have too much muscles. That point is different for all girls, i doubt many would find a real bodybuilder attractive. I know i don't but what i like is of course more extreme then what most girls would like. Not that i will ever reach that state because im already 36 and i don't have the right genes for it. The only thing Thai girls really like fat is your wallet. If your so sure girls dont like beefed up guys ask girls what they like about that werewolf guy in new moon. Most girls go absolutely crazy for his figure. Put a slightly overweight guy next to him and i bet he will get 8 out of 10 girls.

The girls i talk with like muscular / slim / athletic guys. Im sure there are those who like overweight beer drinking slobs.. but these girls in general occupy the bars. Just look at normal Thais in the same age bracket they will usually have slim guys as a bf. They dont have muscular ones because there are not many muscular Thais around. Thought i have seen a few who put me to shame.

But you just keep believing in your story because it keeps you from doing hard things like working out and eating right.

Mig im sure you are both a thinker and a talker :D I have seen my share of smart Thais but more less smart ones (isnt it the same everywhere). But your system of education is aimed at drilling information in people without understanding. I must admit some things have to be learned that way but not everything.

Anyway in my country things were better b4 now people know less and less too.

When i came here i was overweight and at the fat side. You know the chubby face bit of a belly. I was called uuan and pom pui all the time and i hated it big time. Now that i lost my weight gained some muscle the same people who call me uan and pompui still call me that out of habit. So it might not be meant hurtful.

Wow, you really took that personal...

Thanks for the attack on the kind of girls I 'attract'. While I clearly said that I can never become overweight or chubby, it just goes against my genes. And I am not talking about the girls I attract per se, even if I heard some say it too, but in general what many say, i.e. gf's of friends, single girls etc etc.

I would be happy if they all preferred athletic and slim type, but hey, we cannot all get what we want...

They don't even make them big enough for a medium sized Thai, much less XXXL! I am not talking about XXXL, I am talking about including the majority of Thais in their sizing options.

I thought i did not go on a personal attack if i did my apologies. Everything i said was in general. I even conceded that really beefed up guys are usually not liked.

Must be the part about the bar girls liking the fat guys... and the fat wallet.. those were in general and not meant at you.

But look at it if a guy looks bad then its easy to hang on to him because there is not much competition and it is easy to take his money while telling him he is so hansum.

Of course not there will always be people who like other things. What i think is pretty and attractive in a girl is totally different than of an other guy. But most guys do agree they don't like fat girls (exceptions are there).

I normally take compliments i get with a pinch of salt especially if you paid someone for service or if your a customer. When a massage girl tells me you look so nice i would not value it much as i am a customer and she gets money from me. Its different if someone who has nothing to gain from it makes an comment like that.

That is what i mean with the girls liking a fat wallet.

For your information im nothing like the guy in my avatar, nor do i aspire to be that beefed up.

They gave you a nickname and it stuck. As they're still calling you that even when you're no longer chubby, it's safe to assume that the nickname was never said with any malice in the first place.

I agree they did not say it with any malice. I just hated it because i knew i was really out of shape and it reminded me of it all the time. Anyway after i got my act together i made some changes and they worked.

I think the Thai govt should take this further and allow stylish clothes only in two sizes, anyone larger then a 'M' would have to make do with old rice sacks. It'd be motivation for lard <deleted> to do a bit of exercise which in turn would lead to a healthier country.

The manufacturers have conducted extensive market research and concluded that there's more fat Farangs in Thailand than fat Thais so only make smaller Thai sizes to discriminate against Farnangs and any Farang that can fit into one will be charged double price anyway.
