In ongoing investigations into underage prostitution in Pattaya, police raided a popular A-Go-Go boy bar in Banglamung early on Saturday morning. Officers conducting a sting operation at the premises arrested five underage male prostitutes and several drugs users.

Pattaya, the 24th of July 2010: At approximately 1:00am on Saturday, Colonel Atisawit Kamonrat (Chon-Buri Immigration Superintendent) in cooperation with the Narcotics Control Board conducted a raid at the “Nice Boy Night Club” in Banglamung. The operation was instigated following an anonymous tip-off that the gay bar was providing underage boys for prostitution services and was involved with narcotics supply.

Using an undercover agent of foreign nationality, who infiltrated the bar posing as a customer who required the services of an underage employee. Paying a Bt1,300 baht fee he was taken with the boy to an upstairs service room before police stormed the downstairs bar. Upstairs officers confiscated a large amount of illegal pornography and found evidence to support acts of prostitution services being offered at the premises.

I don't think in a case like this they are allowed to show the underage persons in public. Looks like a fine establishment (not) I have in the past - wondered why in 40 plus years of visiting and or living and working in Thailand I have never made it down to Pattaya or any of the famous streets of Bangkok. I now pride myself on that and I am committed that it shell never change.

As if the Pattaya police aren't totally in the know about EVERY bar on EVERY street.

AND taking a cut. Anonymous tip-off my 'Uncle Martha'!

This is pre Buddhust lent face saving raids, and targeting those who likely

didn't pony up for an extra payment for the hollidays.

And yes these young men look of age.

Just a show raid, and more local tea money BS.

Allot of people say the same thing about Thailand in general. Pattaya is a great place and yes, it does have some bad streets like any other place.

In Pattaya my friend, just like in life, one tends to find what one seeks. If you don't look for these kinds of establishments chances are you won't find them.

the pic must show boys of legal age ; underage aren't shown.Once in CM I mistakenly (yes) walked into a katoï bar, there were half a dozen clearly underage boys who walked up to me ; I hurried out . The boys here look more like a school of Meuai Thai to me .Still I'm sorry to see men in underwear like this, it's a disgrace .

You're joking right? No matter where you go in Pattaya you can't avoid seeing the little boy bars, they're everywhere and the boys stand out in front waving their hands and parading back and forth. The only way to not see them is to close your eyes or move out of that $hithole. Try going for a walk or ride your bicycle along Dongton beach and tell me you can avoid the little boys in see-thru panties giving massages to the fat farang...the boys & katoey's are everywhere, you don't need to look..

Interesting perspective. The vast majority by an overwhelmingly degree of aggressive sexual solicitation in Pattaya is HETEROSEXUAL in nature. Sure there are gay pockets here and there, but it is no contest. Stop demonizing gays. If you are going on a rampage against prostitution in Thailand, don't be a hypocrite and focus only on gays. Also your use of the term "little boys" is highly inflammatory, as the vast majority of male sex workers in town are of LEGAL AGE, same as the vast majority of female sex workers.

BTW, kathoeys are there to attract straight men. Real gay men are not the slightest bit interested.

If they were really serious about stopping this activity they would have laws to put away the BAR OWNERS for major time. This doesn't seem to be happening. Why? If the owners were under such culpability and it had real teeth in it, you can be sure there would be no underage sex workers at any of the bars. The way it is now, there will be more raids, next month, next year, and on and on, like clockwork.

As far as the drugs, I don't see how owners can control that completely with their workers. They can't drug test everyday, that isn't practical.

UPDATE

Underage Boys found in Police raid of South Pattaya Gay Bar

PATTAYA: -- An undercover operation was organized in the early hours of Saturday Morning at the notorious Sunee Plaza area in South Pattaya, which is known for its gay bars which will often employ underage boys who are available for sexual services to their foreign patrons. In a joint operation involving Chonburi Immigration and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, a raid of the “Nice Boys Go-Go Bar” took place following evidence gathered by a foreign operative who was able to arrange for an underage boy to accompany him to a room above the club for the purpose of engaging in sexual activities in exchange for money. Inside the bar, the Thai employees and foreign patrons were held and everyone was urine tested, including the foreign patrons.

They all look over 18 to me....

Tell it to the judge.

Since they didn't mention it in the news, it is a probable assumption that the underage workers they caught were in the 15 to 17 age group rather than the legally more serious 14 and under class (two classes of crime in Thailand based on age). A 17 year old could easily look 18 and vice versa, etc. I may be wrong about the exact cut off for the two classes, something close to that I think.

Again, they could stop this trade tomorrow with the right kind of enforcement against the BAR OWNERS. Why isn't that happening? (Actually I have a theory but probably against forum rules to make such accusations, but people should think about that ...)

For those not paying attention, the underage workers at this raided bar were a small minority of their staff. There is no excuse whatsoever for having even one underage person on their staff, but even the news headline of the story is typically over-sensationalized, implying that bar was overrun with underage workers.

I can only speak for myself but I would love to see this underage trade completely wiped out. Of course boys that young should be in school not peddling their flesh, and also of course, these events fuel the virulent homophobia that always crops up upon these sorts of news stories.

I just feel: Up to each person's own preferences, I just don't need anyone sticking their sexuality in my face in public...mellow.gif

amen

You think gays are the only people who stick their sexuality in other people's faces? Imagine what its like for gay people to walk around Pattaya where 99 percent of the aggressive solicitation is for heterosexuals. Why don't you just learn to accept diversity and get on with it?

Well, not really.... As I personally, most likely don't believe in what your concept of "God" may be... As I would never in respond to anything with; "amen". But may all men and women, live in peace and prosper, so their families may live a life of peace and tranquility At for at least hopefully for a part of their life...

Interesting perspective indeed! Sitting on the other side of the ball park, metaphorically speaking, IMHO kathoeys are there to attract homosexual or bisexual men. Real heterosexual men are not the slightest bit interested.

What is the LEGAL age here. Never been or likely to go as I do not drink but interesting..

The age for consensual sex in Thailand is 15, but a bar girl/boy has to be over 18. to Drink in a Bar a Thai must be over 20 ...

Looks like they're not spending much money on staff uniforms in that place...

Must be an economy measure to save costs/maximize profits... B)

Regarding one of Jing's comments about the authorities failing to go after the owners of such establishments that violate the law, interesting to notice how the article reported that the unidentified owner left the location shortly before the police raid arrived. Pure coincidence I'm sure. :whistling:

Takes all types to make the world go around , just wish sometimes people would do it in there own country of origin.

To quote you: "Takes all types to make the world go around, just wish sometimes people would do it in their country of origin."

What difference does one's country of origin have to do with anything? I don't understand, there aren't people of different sexual orientations in every country? Huh, I didn't know that...

The thread presents an excellent opportunity to deal with one of the activities in Thailand that many jai dee people find unacceptable; The exploitation of impoverished children. And yes, that's what some of the kids that were detained were. A 15 year old boy should be in school or having fun with other teenagers, not satisfying the sexual perversions of pedophiles. Leave the discussion of homosexuality outside this thread, because the majority of gay people would be the first to want to come and smack some of the customers with a 2X4. Ask a young gay guy how he feels when he reads a story like this and you will most likely hear a reply that is far more harsh than what some homophobes might say. The truth is that the kind of people that frequent bars where they know minors are available, whether they are male or female, are some of the lowest filth on the planet. They are not trustworthy in situations outside of these venues and usually have a trailerload of emotional and social issues/problems they cart around with them. Not content to have made a mess out of their own lives they continue the cycle of infectious social ills by ruining others lives.

I wouldn't even call these bars "gay" since normal gay guys wouldn't be caught dead in one; No more so than a nomal heterosexual would want to hang around in a bar where 15 year old girls were pimped out. I really do not care about the reasons why the bar was raided, but am just happy that the place is shut down even if for a couple days as it means there is one less kid forced into an addiction to yaba and then obliged to work off his drug debt selling his body to perverts. The sad part about the event is that;

i) The kids removed from the premises will not be given an alternative of education and/or drug detox,

ii) The kids will not be provided with the proper counseling to respond to their social problems,

iii) The pimps will be back in business within a day or so,

iv) The broad brush of accusations will paint all gays as supporters of this activity.

In the west, when such bars are raided, usually social services has specialized gay outreach counsellors on hand to help the kids. The gay community funds and supports the intervention programs to help the kids leaves these toxic environments. It won't happen here, because the kids, who are actuallly the victims, are treated as the criminals. There has to be an intervention, not a detention.

I have a couple gay Thai friends. They wouldn't ever go into a place like this and they have nothing but contempt for people that would. So please do nto blur the lines and use this as an excuse to say this is a gay problem when in fact it is an issue of the exploitation of the poor and it is usually gay people that make the complaints and demand the police do something.
