Pool Entertainment

Featured Replies

The Samui Express this week has an article quoting the Health Ministry regarding how to avoid Dengue fever.

Evidently they are advising swimming pool owners to stock up with fish which will eat the mosquito larvae that causes the fever.

It does seem to raise a number of questions though.....

How can fish live in a chlorinated pool? (presumably the majority of pools)

What type of fish do the Health Ministry think could live in these swimming pool conditions? Guppies?

What about the filtration systems? I wouldn't think filters clogged up with fish would be very pleasant.

I can understand this advice if it is for pools that are left standing and not maintained but I have never

ever heard of putting fish into swimming pools. What's more I have never heard of or seen Larvae in a normally maintained pool.

However, the possibilities of increased pool entertainment are endless as there will probably be creatures arriving

which eat the fish, such as snakes, birds etc. A whole eco-system could develop! :D :D

Quick logic would say to put some smaller floating plants in pots somewhere near the pool which mosquitoes too would prefer over chlorinated water and fill these with fish... rolleyes.gif

Cannot wait to read page 4? maybe that page will reveal that mosquitoes don't live in chlorine and neither do fish?

I know that and you know that but it seems the Health Ministry advice has been taken board as (allegedly)35 hotels and resorts have signed up to add these little fellahs to their pools.

Your previous post/discussion is OK providing you don't actually want to swim in the pool. Can't see the punters who have signed up for a week or two in a luxury hotel being best pleased to see the feature landscaped infinity pool as advertised in the glossy mags full of fish and things....
