If you enjoy details and historical facts and structures, you ought to spend at least a full day visiting;

Grand Palace

Wat PraKaew

Wat Po (you can have a very relaxing massage here for about 7 usd for 2 hrs or so, which is alot less than 300 usd in Los Angeles. LOL)

Wat ArRuan and finish your day off with

An evening dinner cruise along ChaoPraYar River to finish off your busy and sweaty day.

However, with "the map" that is already in your possession, you might be able to do it much more enjoyably, much more so than most tourists. :)

It could also 30 sec, without even going inside, after you meet the "local guide" who will tell you the palace is closed and will offer you a ride on a tuk tuk....

It is very deplorable. Many such sad stories have been told by many unsuspecting tourists to Thailand.

When I was approached by the local guides as you named them, I played along with them. They asked for 500 thb for the ride.

After the tour and asked him to drop us off at the tourist police. I asked the officer on duty to ascertain that the temple was really closed and told him what transpired.

We just stood there and watch the interaction and verbal exchange between the two.

The tourist police apologized and said that the Palace and the Emerald Temple are open for business as usual today.

The best part was.... we got a free tour on tuktuk. :unsure:

If there are enough tourists standing up to the local thugs like what we boldly did, they just might change to other more honest profession. :o

A morning is plenty for the Grand Palace but if you do go remember there's a dress code that states ‘no shorts must be worn within the temple’

You can obtain an oversized pair of silly floppy pants at the entrance if you choose.
