Popular Post bannork
Slaps, I believe you posted this yesterday. The sense that this number was a classic was really brought home to me one day about 10 years ago when I was hurrying to work in Bangkok and I passed an English skinhead/ youth out of his head on the street, on his way back from a night's drinking, (this was about 6.30 am, just daylight). Holding on the lamp post, he was singing ' Running around on a piece of ground in your home town, ' The fact the song had got through to a kid who was born well after the song was released, yet was clearly moved by it on some level, struck me.

I got busted fer dope when I was 18 and my high school teachers petitioned the judge to spare me as I was lookin' at 1 to 5 in the joint for possession of a couple of numbers...and the judge said: 'if yer so smart then you should stay in school until yer 21...' when I got my draft notice I simply sent them a copy of the court disposition and I was re classified 1Y...and then I got a high number in the draft lottery later... no way I woulda gone anyway as I have always been fiercely anti imperialist...I ain't got no probs with killin' people if my life is in danger but I thought it an unacceptable intrusion for the US gov't to put me in danger by sending me to war...I spent some time thinkin' about either Canada or jail...I had a draft resistor pal livin' in Vancouver, a girlfriend's brother... the judge put me in county jail during my senior year easter holiday... oh, bad luck and trouble been my only friends...
