Hi All,

I'm planning on taking the train down from the North for a little R&R in Koh Tao or Koh Phangan. I've read that recently Seatran has opened a new pier in Lang Suan for the trip to Koh Tao. I did this trip a while ago but now am a bit confused with the new pier.

Do I still get off the train in Chumphon, or do I now go down to Lang Suan? Do they still offer a bus pickup from the train station to the pier? Which station now?

I guess I could always take Lomprayah direct from Chumphon, but would still like to figure out the Seatran way as I thought it was nice to be able to walk around the boat a bit, photos, etc.

The Seatran leaves fom Chumphon the same as the Lomprayah. Walk out of the station at Chumphon. Turn right and around 50 metres on the right is Fame tours. pop in there and get a ticket to either Tao or KPG. The ferry leaves at 8am and takes around 2-2.5 hours to Tao A much better ride than the catamaran in my opinion :D

Sorry but all of this information is incorrect.

Seatran does not leave from Chumphon as they have moved to Lang Suan and the boat departs at 7:00am (same as the old schedule) and never 8:00am.

Fame Tours is about 400m from the train station. Walk SE to the traffic lights 250m and turn right into Sala Daeng 150m.

Tickets for Lomprayah are available at the train station prior to pickup.

Seatrans do not always have a boat available for the Lang Suan to Koh Tao route so it is best to check.

Sorry but Seatran annoyed many people with their decision to move operations from Chumphon leaving the market to Lomprayah (not my prefered company).

They moved there lang suan as its closer to the Surat Airport and are trying to offer an alternative to bus and boat.

I know a lot have complained when sold seatran- bangkok bus tickets as the move adds a cple of hours on the trip.

They have been steadily going downhill fast of late.I used to use them a lot but now have stopped. If moving to Lang Suan was to be nearer the airport why not go the whole hog and move to Donsak which is closer to the airport and they already have the infrastructure ?

I could never understand why they do not use the brand new, mothballed airport they have at Chumphon ? Get one of the cheap airlines to use it and cut the time to get to the islands by a massive margin. Thai business logic though is a mysterious thing.

Thanks for all the replies!

Combined with the info above, here's what I've found out:

The Seatran now indeed leaves from Lang Suan @ 7.00am most days. Cost to KPN is 900 baht! ohmy.gif

They will pick you up at the Lang Suan train station for an extra 50 baht, but I couldn't get a confirmed time for the pick-up.

I contacted fame tours and they said it's Lomprayah only now from Chumphon - cost is 750 to KPN.
