Motorbikes and bangkok don't really mix , esp if you are a ferang .. Best to keep to the bts or taxis ...

I know many people who would say differently.

Got to agree with boater, who in their right mind would ride a motorcycle in Bkk.

English teachers may have a differing opinion, only because they cant afford taxis.

Im an accountant, and i would ride one in bkk especially when its full of traffic. I think you will have to give it a try before you can judge it. I had a nice big bike and lived a bit outside of bkk.. loved driving that bike (on familiar terrain). Now i got a car and sold the big bike traded it in for a smaller one. Nothing really beats a bike in traffic.

The ones complaining about bikes are usually old and scared and never driven a bike in the old country. Its just something you have to try and after a while you will like it. It gives you a lot more freedom. However if your like me and don't know your way that well.. don't buy one because its dangerous if you don't know where you have to go and you have to focus on traffic too.

Driving in bangkok seems a really daunting task until you have done it... aslong as youv got your wits about then you will be fine..

in my case the reason why i drive in BKK is that from where i live it can take 20 mins to get to and from work on a bike or 1 1/2 hrs to get a taxi/bts/walk combo so im saving well over 2 hrs a day ontop of that iv got 2 kids under 2 and i seem to constantyl be going to the shops for milk, nappies or any other thing the mrs can thing off so having a bike is handy for doing that kind of stuff

IMHO the only people who dont need a bike are the people who live in the pubs around soi4 anyone who cannot be arsed to sit in some kind of traffic will find one handy

Just wondering why you wont buy, if long term is more then 10 months is reasonable to buy. Here near me there is a shop selling second hand airblades for around 30k.
