ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE

- Phil Collins

She calls out to the man on the street

"Sir, can you help me?

It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep,

Is there somewhere you can tell me?"

He walks on, doesn't look back

He pretends he can't hear her

Starts to whistle as he crosses the street

Seems embarrassed to be there

Oh think twice, it's another day for

You and me in paradise

Oh think twice, it's just another day for you,

You and me in paradise

She calls out to the man on the street

He can see she's been crying

She's got blisters on the soles of her feet

Can't walk but she's trying

Oh think twice . . .

How about these boots were made for walking by Nancy Sinatra.

by Nancy Sinatra

album: Boots (1995),

You Go-Go Girl

You keep saying you've got something for me.

something you call love, but confess.

You've been a messin' where you shouldn't have been a messin'

and now someone else is gettin' all your best.

These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do

one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

You keep lying, when you oughta be truthin'

and you keep losin' when you oughta not bet.

You keep samin' when you oughta be a changin'.

Now what's right is right, but you ain't been right yet.

These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do

one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

You keep playin' where you shouldn't be a playin

and you keep thinkin' that you´ll never get burnt.

Ha!

I just found me a brand new box of matches yeah

and what he knows you ain't HAD time to learn.

These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do

one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

Are you ready boots? Start walkin'!

That was Frank Sinatra wasn't it? Not U2. Or did U2 do a version also

That was U2's version from a few years back.

It seems Ella Fitzgerald did the song to - waaay back! :D

Frank Sinatra? He was way before my time too. :o

Ian Dury, New Boots, what an album. I used to have it on yellow vinyl, one of the first few printed, which I sold for 1 pound to a mate, worth hundreds now!

Must be one of my favourite albums and the best artist I have seen live.

I suggest Blockheads for the theme tune.

For some members, I think this one may be appropriate: :o

I met her in a bar down in Nana Plaza

Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola

C-o-l-a cola

She walked up to me and she asked me to dance

I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola

L-o-l-a Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Well I’m not the world’s most physical guy

But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine

Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Well I’m not dumb but I can’t understand

Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man

Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Well we drank champagne and danced all night

Under electric candlelight

She picked me up and sat me on her knee

And said dear boy won’t you come home with me

Well I’m not the world’s most passionate guy

But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola

Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

I pushed her away

I walked to the door

I fell to the floor

I got down on my knees

Then I looked at her and she at me

Well that’s the way that I want it to stay

And I always want it to be that way for my Lola

Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Girls will be boys and boys will be girls

It’s a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola

Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Well I left home just a week before

And I’d never ever kissed a woman before

But Lola smiled and took me by the hand

And said dear boy I’m gonna make you a man

Well I’m not the world’s most masculine man

But I know what I am and I’m glad I’m a man

And so is Lola

Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Lola by the Kinks (slightly modified by yours truly :D )

For everybody who travel on overnight trains/buses/buffalo it has to be Golden Earring's Radar Love.

"I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel

There's a voice in my head that drives my heel

It's my baby callin', says I need you here

And it's half past four and I'm shifting gear"

It's gotta be, obviously "One night in Bangkok" Murray Head from the Musical - Chess. The words can relate to most major places anywhere in Thailand.

Bangkok, Oriental setting

And the city don't know what the city is getting

The creme de la creme of the chess world in a

Show with everything but Yul Brynner

Time flies -- doesn't seem a minute

Since the Tirolean spa had the chess boys in it

All change -- don't you know that when you

Play at this level there's no ordinary venue

It's Iceland -- or the Philippines -- or Hastings -- or --

or this place!

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster

The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free

You'll find a god in every golden cloister

And if you're lucky then the god's a she

I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One town's very like another

When your head's down over your pieces, brother

It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity

To be looking at the board, not looking at the city

Whaddya mean? Ya seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town --

COMPANY:

Tea, girls, warm, sweet

Some are set up in the Somerset Maugham suite

Get Thai'd! You're talking to a tourist

Whose every move's among the purest

I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble

Not much between despair and ecstasy

One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble

Can't be too careful with your company

I can feel the devil walking next to me

Siam's gonna be the witness

To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness

This grips me more than would a

Muddy old river or reclining Buddha

And thank God I'm only watching the game -- controlling it --

I don't see you guys rating

The kind of mate I'm contemplating

I'd let you watch, I would invite you

But the queens we use would not excite you

So you better go back to your bars, your temples, your massage

parlours --

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster

The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free

You'll find a god in every golden cloister

A little flesh, a little history

I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble

Not much between despair and ecstasy

One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble

Can't be too careful with your company

I can feel the devil walking next to me

The Land of Smiles.

Take me to the land of tunes frozen in time,

Targo teams and chang and mysterious dreams,

Take me to the land of cosmonauts where man are taking meahkong shots,

And woman are free (so free...) .

LOS, land of fried rice and happy smiles,

LOS, land of broken bones and solid skies.

With you I would be happy living there,

Raising cows and children, watching no TV,

Show me what our lives are supposed to be,

Working for grains, getting drinks for free.

LOS, land of fried rice and happy smiles,

LOS, land of broken bones and solid skies.

LOS, land of fried rice and happy smiles,

LOS, land of broken bones and solid skies.

LOS, land of Chang and fresh ocean breeze,

LOS, land of rolling stones, free love and peace.

'We chat about the things we can and sometimes can't discuss, :D

but decorum on the forum is an absoloute - a must,

it's No.1 for expats who have Thailand as their lust, :D

and even ones like me who roam and try to earn a crust,

It kills the time to surf the blue and here's the funny thing, :D

it's sometimes pays to hold your tounge and sometimes lose to win,

some expats take a bashing, some get pushed around the ring, :D

some don their budgie smugglers and nip off for a swim'

Thankyou very much. :o:D

What attracted you to Thailand, Ivan?

Initialy to study Budhism.

Returned many times over the past seven years.

Love the country, people, weather, food etc.

Married my Thai wife last April,

Now just waiting until I retire and can move permanently to my adopted home.

And you?

Regards

Ivan

I've just had a pint of Adnams and a sherry tonight.

The song still needs a tune so I'll have a go on my banjo later.
