Hi there,

On Friday 1st October I contacted a firm in the UK to renew a contract with them, no problem, what's your debit card number. I read the number on the front of my Nationwide Debit card to the person I was speaking to, what are the 3 number next to your signature, err there are no numbers next to my signature strip, there must be, there isn't. Could you contact Nationwide then come back to us, ok, I contacted Nationwide customer services and they said there must be numbers next to your signature, only other option will be to transfer money to the firm via internet banking as the firm would not accept credit cards.

I contacted the firm in the UK again, told them what Nationwide had said to me and they agreed that I could transfer the required amount to them, email sent with bank account details, but I would have to send more than had been agreed as the exchange rate may be less by the time they receive the money from Nationwide. So that's what I had to agree to do.

My fault for not looking at the new Debit card when I received it in September 2009 and I hadn't needed to use the card before the 1st October this year. New card will be with me shortly, about 1one month and will have the numbers next to the signature strip, so customer services assure me. May be worth checking any new cards to see if they have all the required numbers on them?
